Every great song lives on and on throughout time. We remember that band for their epic song that will last throughout the annals of time, which is until 2036 when that asteroid extincts the human race. Every once and while another band will come and will feel the need to put their touch on the song. Sure sometimes it works and the song is made even better, but most of the time what happens is something I call “Covnobyl”.

Can you ruin your own song? Even if it wasn’t that good to begin with?

The Number 1 album in the country last week: Modest Mouse’s We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank. Thank you America, for finally showing some taste.

I prefer to think of this occurrence as America waking up to the awesomeness that is Modest Mouse, than MM selling out–and if you actually listen to the albums, I think it shows that this is clearly the case. Remember, the dashboard’s melted but we’ve still got the radio (playing “Dashboard”).

Not much to report this week, but still juicy stuff about Oasis and Bloc Party feuding, the Happy Mondays, and the one tour that is guaranteed to scare your parents after the jump. (more…)
