We’re about a quarter some stretch of the way through 2009. And because I am a blogger and enjoy both creating arbitrary segments of time for my own writing purposes and the compilation of shamelessly subjective lists, I have (yet another) one of the latter for one of the former.

Check the Quarter Pole archives for past editions, and click the jump to read this one. (more…)

My apologies: No Quarter Pole until next week.

Instead, Asher Roth rapping about Eminem. It’s called “As I Em.”

Check the tags. You know what this is.

Congratulations to everyone on DeadOn’s millionth hit, but, especially, to the people here who aren’t me, because they’ve definitely done one hell of a lot more than I have.

Yeah, so, about that Quarter Pole.

In another novel idea, Confection Corner on Friday. With One on One.

And a Quarter Pole.

All sorts of fun today. We have some new Keri Hilson, the All-American Rejects getting some love, and me, too, disliking “Get on Your Boots.” Oh, and a surprise. Jump with me. (more…)

I’m pressed for time, so no Confection Corner today.

Instead, a remix to “Turnin’ Me On,” and C-N-N selling reggaeton.

Bottom video from The Real.

I can’t do New Music Tuesday because so little actually drops in hip-hop. Today, a new Grandmaster Flash album with zero buzz is out, but that’s it.

So I improvise with “How to Rob an Industry Hipster,” an update of 50’s classic, by Big City Philadelphia. I laughed. (Spotted at, jacked from Nah Right.)

Go read that long post from yesterday.

That Kanye West episode of VH1 Storytellers was everything from relevant insight on his creative process to fully indulgent egomania.

But at least we got another great version of “Stronger.”

How about Fresh to Death Friday? No?

Today’s “Flight School” Friday. I love this beat.

Also: “These last years been a haze like Isaac.” Nice.

Remember Throwback Thursday? Today, KRS-One’s “Criminal Minded.”

The “Hey Jude” reference makes me laugh. Also, read Confection Corner.

I’m reviving this and running it every Wednesday, in Sedgwick’s stead.

I start today with Kelly Clarkson.

“My Life Would Suck Without You” is an excellent song with an abysmal title. (more…)

With Cam’Ron ramping up his promotion for his latest album, I figured it was a good time to dredge up my favorite single song from the entire Diplomat crew.

That beat, especially as the synths stab in, is malicious. And the “The Warriors” theme to the video is a nice touch, too, considering the Dips’ own cult status.

It’s Monday, which means The Real have a video for us. (NSFW.)

And this one’s fantastic. (That’s Cam’ron, for the uninitiated.)

It’s Dr. Dre’s 44th birthday. This won him a Grammy in 1994.

Also, Detox is never coming out. Ever.
