There seems to be a recurring theme here – single dominates the radio, I buy a CD, listen to the rest of it, bury it in the Big Black Book of CDs, and never ponder it again.

Rewind, repeat, with a mambo flair… after the jump.

Seeing all the horror movie commercials over the last few weeks, I saw a few for the 2006 remake of The Omen, starring Julia Stiles, which provided the inspiration over this week’s review.

If there was a FAIL! entry for poor music decisions, this would earn an entry – for both the producer and the purchaser.

Consider, for a moment, the talent on the Mickey Mouse Club in the 1990s – Justin Timberlake, Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, and JC Chavez. That’s not to mention Keri Russell (swoon) and Ryan Gosling. So how could an album put out by the MMC go awry?

Find out… after the jump

Sometimes, having owned and enjoyed an artist’s previous seven studio albums, a greatest hits disc, a live cd, a box set and a holiday cd will convince you that purchasing of the next album is a good idea.

Sometimes, that loyalty is rewarded (everything by U2, for example). Sometimes, that loyalty is not rewarded, and not just in a “That wasn’t quite as good as the last album way”. Join me after the jump for one of, if not THE, greatest musical flops of my lifetime.

Which of course, I owned.

The newest feature to DeadOn’s Music Commentary, this is “I Spent Money On This?”, taking a self-deprecating look at my numerous bad musical purchases.

After the jump, a cassette I am almost certain I opened once, played half way through, and never touched again.

Ladies and gentlemen, I am JB* and I will be your guide for the next several weeks as we walk down the path towards what producers surely hope may lead to the CMT Reality Series, “My Big Redneck Wedding”. Joining me on the Big Brown Couch is Mrs.JB*, who will be adding scathing catty commentary along the way.

The premise of the show is your basic romantic comedy fare –
1. Allegedly hunky farmer (who looks like Christopher Titus with bigger ears) lives in small town (Portage Des Sioux, Missouri)
2. Titus wants to marry, but darn, there’s just no good catches here in this small town
3. Enter the fish out of water in the form of ten city girls on the farm
4. Oh, the hilarity ensues. Look at the princess get dirty! Hear her whine! See them kiss!
5. Profit!

Tied to the 90s

Welcome back to “Tied to the 90s“, a not-very complete guide to a decade that was. I’m your host, Yostal, and once more, I’ll be taking you through the pop culture landscape of the 1990s. If you have any suggestions for future columns, please email me at GoinYostal@gmail.com or leave me a comment.

Today, I’ll be looking at the 10 best songs of 2007. Or I should say “The 10 Best Songs I Added to my iTunes Library in 2007”. Between writing Tied to the 90s for a good part of the year, the development of Seeqpod, and getting Sirius in my car and listening to Lithium 24 pretty much non-stop, I have added a large amount of music to my iTunes this past year (grand total: 650 songs). So I thought as a “nostalgia columnist” it wouldn’t be right for me to talk about the current music, especially as I don’t know what the hell I would be talking about. So instead, you get a wide-ranging look at what I was listening to in 2007. Some of this may trod upon ground covered earlier this year, but that said, here we go again…
