Beatles Themed iPod? Wednesday, July 11, 2007Posted by Baba Oje in Baba Oje, beatles, iTunes, Paul McCartney is a corporate whore.

With Apple Corp. (The Beatles multi-faceted multimedia would-be empire) and Apple Computer finally ending decades of legal battles earlier this year, and reconciliation of sorts with Paul McCartney releases on iTunes and iPod commercials, it looks about time to release the full Beatles’ catalogue to be added to the world’s most popular online music store. Rumors have been circulating that Apple Computers will celebrate with a Yellow Submarine themed iPod, which would come fully loaded with all 12 of the Fab Four’s UK studio albums. Worked for the U2 iPod, why not for the Beatles? HT and Pic: ZME Music

It was forty years ago today, Sgt. Peppers began to play. (see what I did there?) 1967 was known as the summer of love, and it was all kicked off with the release of Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band by the Beatles. An album doesn’t become universally loved and renown unless its damn good, so listen to a sample here and go out and buy the album if you haven’t already.
DeadOn isn’t the only source celebrating the anniversary. Apparently the douche bags over at American Idol decided to celebrate by not only perverting it to make more money to support Paula Abdul-Jabbar’s drug habit and pay for Simon Cowell’s ever growing collection of black v-neck t-shirts, but they also wanted to ruin some of the greatest music ever written. More on that after the jump.

OK, this is kind of breaking news and I would never forgive myself if I didn’t bring it to your attention. The classic album, and generally regarded as the greatest ever (incorrectly, it belongs in the #2 spot), Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, is to be remade this summer in honor of the 40 year anniversary. Bands so far announced to be involved are Oasis, The Killers, Kaiser Chiefs, Razorlight, James Morrison, the Fratellis, and Travis. Geoff Emerick, the man who was in charge of the original album, will also be working on the covers. No word yet on who will sing what, or if Zak Starkey, Oasis drummer and son of Ringo, will follow in his father’s footsteps and sing “With a Little Help From My Friends”.
Share your thoughts on whether this is a tribute to a great band, or a blasphemy to one of the greatest albums ever in the comments.

I have no idea how this came up, but over at Deadspin Up! All Night, we got to discussing Kenny Loggins. Pretty standard, except for that Kenny Loggins Alive is possibly the greatest album cover ever. This got me to wondering what are some of the most recognizable and famous album covers are. It seems like everybody at Deadon is required to write atleast one post about music, so here’s my attempt at it. Hit the jump for the list.

Welcome to a very special St. Patrick’s Day edition of Saturday Afternoon Standup. The Irish are known for three things – drinking, potatoes, and underratedly kickass music. You supply the Guinness and spuds, I’ll bring you the music. First off we have a look back through music history and imagine what the world would be like if The Beatles were Irish:

The Definitive 200 Wednesday, March 7, 2007Posted by athleticsupporter in albums, athleticsupporter, beatles, music.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame found a soft spot in my heart when they inducted the Ramones. Now with this list of The “Definitive 200” albums, they are attempting to make me hate them again.
We’ve kicked this ball around the playground a few times in other posts, but now lets really dig into it.
The list has potential, but I think there are some glaring mistakes. How would you fix it? What do you think they got right? Tell us in the comments.
