holly - christmassy shitEvery week, leading up to Jebus’ birthday, I am going to be pulling a couple choice lines out of a long-lost DeadOn Liveblog that never saw the light of day. The game is simple… After the post each week, post your guesses as to what the movie is that we liveblogged.

We are going to start with the first five lines, in no particular order.

CDNMoose: GLORY HOLE! x2!

Andrea: fellate himself?

Jerkwheat: he wants taco flavored kisses

Jukeboxhero: This is what goes on at guantanamo

AthleticSupporter: *imagines joey harrington and michael vick playing piano together… kinda like in “big” *

Also… once the correct porn movie is guessed I will post the funnied-up liveblog.

Well we made it to the end of the week together kids. With a little bit of luck, Jerkwheat will be back on Monday. So for the week, I’m going to leave you with one of my favorite songs, being covered live by my favorite band*.

Chloe Dancer/Crown of Thorns – Pearl Jam (originally by Mother Love Bone)

* It’s taken a lot of restraint not to post Pearl Jam every day

I know I’ve been pulling out the older material this week, so I promise to pick something a little more recent tomorrow. But who can argue with this…

This is a performance of A Quick One While He’s Away that The Who did for the Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus in 1968. As legend goes, the Rolling Stones felt somewhat upstaged by the Who’s performance and that’s part of why this video was hidden away for nearly 30 years, only to surface in 1996.

Hello kids, you have a substitiute for the rest of the week. It seems your regular teacher upset the computer gods by not offering a proper sacrifice of 3 virgins and a case of Old Milwaukee.

Words are failing to accurately convey how much this entertains me. The sexual innuendo is off the charts here. And yes, this is a real product

Ladies and Gentelmen. It is September 1st, 2007. That means today is the first Saturday of the 2007 college football season. While I was looking for “mascot fights” on youtube*, I came across this video. Also, this doesn’t mean I’m rooting for the Vols this week … Go Cal.

After the jump… more videos of mascots and football related stuff that didn’t make the cut.

*There is not nearly enough videos of mascot fights on youtube

So the last few weeks, a force has taken over the internets… and that is “Chocolate Rain” by Tay Zonday

Well surfing youtube, you come up with things like this, which is a remix of Chocolate Rain with a Nelly Furtado song. I can’t lie.. I’ve watched this like 10 times already.

Every now and then, you stay up a little too late and surf the internets. Well I was stumbling around YouTube and came across this. Apologies for the crappy quality… but it’s worth it.

book!

As a child, I was a toy-whore. For the most part it was GI Joes, Transformers, and Legos. I would set up the GI Joe Battle Fortress and all the vehicles like the tank and snowcat on the red carpet in my room and have an epic battle. The carpet being red was a fortunate coincidence because I just pretended that GI Joe kicked the snot out of Cobra Commander and the whole battlefield was covered in blood.

The Plush Harry Potter monster books doesn’t have kung-fu grip like my beloved GI Joes, but that doesn’t mean it’s useless. Ok, well unlike Bob Uecker I find pretty much any plush item useless… but that’s my bias.

Other popular toys that don’t have kung-fu grip.
Barbie and Ken (also lacking anatomical correctness)
Legos
My Little Pony
Transformers
Fire
Power Tools
Easy Bake Oven

Buy @ ThinkGeek

Note: I had some of these toys as a child. Some I did not.

CBT – Free MP3s – OK Computer Would be In 5th Grade This Year Thursday, July 19, 2007

radiohead cover artThe RIAA is cracking down on people these days for grabbing copyrighted songs. That doesn’t mean you need to go pony up money to get your groove on, it just means you have to be more creative in where you look. In Cheap Bastard Thursday (Free MP3 Downloads), I’ll point you to some awesome music that can be had legally, without paying a penny to anybody**.

OK Computer is 10 years old.

The folks over at stereogum.com, to celebrate the 10th birthday of OK Computer, have put together a compilation album of some of their favorite artists covering the entirety of this highly regarded album. Definitely make sure to visit their site, they have a lot of information about the songs over there.

Punch, pie, and free music after the jump…

Alright, so I’m taking a hiatus on the technical posts to give you a free music website again.

This one has came up a few times on the new releases column, but I thought it was worth a mention as a resource to be added to your list of places to look for new music.

Every week, AOL puts up full streaming albums of some of the major new releases. So you should never again have to ask “is that new Kelly Clarkson CD really worth buying?”

Once again, it’s getting technical for CBT. Last time we went over what the hell BitTorrent is, and why it matters. This time we are going to look at what those files you are downloading off BitTorrent have, and why they have funny names like FLAC and SHN.

After the jump, we will discuss data compression, audio file formats, and Stuart Scott’s occular issues.

And just to keep the home fires burning, I’ve included a song at the bottom of the post for your listening pleasure.

So, remember that summer camp variant of the Telephone game where one person would tell the beginning of a story, then the next person would continue the story, and so on until the story devolved into the world’s longest poo joke? (Note: the “longest” describes the joke, not the poo. At least at my summer camp.”)

So we decided to play that game as much older children, with not only a wider vocabulary but an extremely more sophisticated gutter mind.

Surprisingly, the word “roundhouse” was used only three times. Twice by CDNMoose.

As the summer movie season rolls along, we here at DeadOn are committed to giving our readers critical, well-thought analysis (well, it’s analysis at least) because we don’t want you to waste your hard-earned money on bad movies, long lines and spending time with inordinate amounts of teenagers. That and we can’t get enough of seeing our own words in the blogosphere. We are bound and determined to be the eyes and ears for our readers…. Well, at least the eyes and ears for the 85 other writers on this website, who account for most of our readers.

The big movie this week is the latest installment of the Ocean’s… series, Ocean’s Thirteen starring a shit-ton of people who you probably have seen before. So, without further ado….

CBT – Free MP3 What The Hell is BitTorrent?! Thursday, June 7, 2007

So in my quest to turn you all into free music fanatics, I’m going to depart from the norm once again and start off on a multipart series of “tools of the trade”. These are not going to be full blown how-to tutorials, but rather birds-eye views.

One of the major ways that live concert trading is done online these days is via BitTorrent. Typically, when you download a file from the internet, you only receive data from a single server. BitTorrent changes this by making each person who is downloading the file also part of the group of computers that is distributing the file.

Since I know computer stuff tends to make people go crosseyed and start speaking in tounges, I won’t be offended if you have no interest in any of this. In that case, the MP3 of the week is after the jump at the bottom of the page.

Punch, pie, tech talk, and a song (if your good) after the jump.

At this point, everybody has heard this song. Despite the song being most notably covered by Jimi Hendrix, it was actually written in 1967 by Bob Dylan.

The song usually is performed in one of two treatments, either Dylan’s original acoustic version, or the electric, more amplified as was done by both Dylan and Hendrix.
