We’re about a quarter some stretch of the way through 2009. And because I am a blogger and enjoy both creating arbitrary segments of time for my own writing purposes and the compilation of shamelessly subjective lists, I have (yet another) one of the latter for one of the former.

Check the Quarter Pole archives for past editions, and click the jump to read this one. (more…)

Wow: we’re about three-quarters through 2008. And because I am a blogger and enjoy both creating arbitrary segments of time for my own writing purposes and the compilation of shamelessly subjective lists, I have (yet another) one of the latter for one of the former.

Fun stuff if you follow. (more…)

At least by months, we’re officially halfway through 2008. And because I am a blogger and enjoy both creating arbitrary segments of time for my own writing purposes and the compilation of shamelessly subjective lists, I have (another) one of the latter for one of the former. This one’s about music. (more…)

My apologies: No Quarter Pole until next week.

Instead, Asher Roth rapping about Eminem. It’s called “As I Em.”

Remember that “you’re in my danger field like Rodney” line?

It’s a Premier cut in this. (Check out The Quarter Pole.)

All sorts of fun stuff today. First, I watched Training Day (four of five stars, maybe) this weekend; the first cruise in Denzel’s badass cop’s Monte Carlo overlaid music is overlaid with the plunking piano from this, an opus from the better-keyboardist-than-producer Scott Storch.

Then there’s a couple of Real videos after the jump. (more…)

True story: I took my family’s copy of Time on my trip up to school because I felt it was important enough to read right then and not later online.

I, like Maura, was disappointed. (more…)

The first-ever Sedgwick without a YouTube video.

Crooked I, “Hero” Freestyle

But, I promise, it’s worth it. (So is The Quarter Pole.)

If I blow your memory on your spine, would you think back?

Some Gnarls Barkley, from their first CD; it’s been stuck in my head all day.

Quarter Pole on Monday? Maybe.

After no one cared about Nas Week, I’m throwing yakkers all week.

Well, it is your chance.

Also, a little thing called finals means that there’s no way there’s another Quarter Pole coming ’til next Monday. But there is one coming then, I promise.

One of my favorite songs of 2006 to close Nas Week.

Have to disagree with the song title, have to love the “In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida” sample given a drumbeat and tweaked to sound more like the apocalypse. Oh, and the last verse is straight killer, no filler.

I’m not putting any more NSFW warnings on these videos; assume the worst. And The Quarter Pole is coming back on Monday afternoon to give a little more on 2008 in either movies or TV, I’m not sure which.

If anyone else wants to write any of it, leave an email in the comments.

More Nas for your consumption today, with the legendary “Ether.” (Very NSFW.)

To date, to “ether” is to destroy on wax. Part of the Jay-Nas feud we’ll discuss later.

The Quarter Pole will not be appearing today, considering I woke up at 1. If I just made you miss college…sorry. I plan on tripling up on Thursday/Friday, because tomorrow isn’t looking really promising for lots of blogging.

I gave Jay his due last week. Now it’s Little Homey’s turn.

Off Illmatic, maybe the quintessential ’90s New York album.

The Quarter Pole is coming later this afternoon.

Well, now that you know from the title how I feel about this latest incarnation, let’s discuss it, shall we? First of all, this recap is several days late because: (1) MTV gave me no fucking clue when it was on (no, I didn’t visit their website, smartass!); and (2) the first time my DVR recorded it (after I found it), it turned out to be an episode of “Made” (oh, the tomboy totally becomes the prom queen, by the way). When I finally got the damn thing taped, I start watching it only to realize that this season will be a poorly-developed rip-off of Survivor. Oh joy. Join me after the jump to find out which fame-whores are on the cast this time around.
