New Music Tuesday – February 3rd, 2009 Tuesday, February 3, 2009Posted by Jerkwheat in jerkwheat, Your Morning Rock.
It’s a couple of hours late, but I can’t let a Tuesday pass without our weekly rundown of what’s new on the shelves of your local big box store.
One of our favorite shaggy haired young hipsters returns today with a brand new album, but whom else? Jump with me, people.
Ben Kweller – Changing Horses
I first heard Ben Kweller at a church in Toronto in the early months of 2001. He was opening for Jeff Tweedy and won the crowd over with a fun little acoustic set. I’ve been a fan ever since. Although I’m not sure he’s fully reached his potential on a full-length to date. Perhaps that finally happens here.
The Fray – The Fray
Is there a more bland band? They are probably playing in the background of a show on WE, Lifetime, or a Gray’s Anatomy rerun right now. They aren’t really worth taking the time to hate, but they are the Soft Nickelback are they not? Do the chord progressions even change between songs? Does that stop the songs from charting high?
Melinda Doolittle – Coming Back To You
I always liked Melinda on Idol two seasons back and I’m glad to see that she’s finally getting her record out. The good news is that Coming Back To You is getting excellent early reviews and I’m pretty anxious to hear it.
Also today, The Bad Plus decide to use a singer, The Von Bondies break back out of their Detroit garage, and Willie Nelson shares the peace pipe with Asleep At The Wheel.
