Neko Case - Middle Cyclone

I don’t usually post about music here, but I’m extremely excited about Neko Case’s new album, Middle Cyclone which comes out on March 3. The first single, “People Got a Lotta Nerve” is most excellent, all jangly guitars and vocal harmonies. It’s streaming on her MySpace page (where you can observe a larger version of the rocktastic album cover*), and you can download it for free over at the ANTI- blog (left-hand sidebar). Neko and ANTI- are also going in together on a charity promotion whereby they’ll combine to donate $5 to Best Friends Animal Society for every blog that posts the song. So, Best Friends: Here’s $5. Everybody else: Here’s a great song.

The Following Takes Place Between 11:00 A.M and 12:00 P.M.

Janeane Garofolo refers to Bill’s van as a “dark colored panel van.” I respectfully disagree – bright blue rape van is more my style. Edgar 2.0 can’t get the traffic cameras to load because Chloe is way smarter than him.  Moss thinks Jack and Tony have been planning the escape for a long time, but that makes no sense at all. Why would Jack lead them directly to Tony in the first place and then have Tony brought in? Moss is so the mole.  Renee is pissed and can’t believe she trusted Jack; she’s going to do whatever it takes to find him and Tony.  Janeane Garofolo identifies Tanner as the sniper from earlier and apparently he’s still alive and recovering in the hospital.

The Following Takes Place Between 10:00 A.M. and 11:00 A.M.

POTUS Taylor gets word that they’ve captured Tony but lost the CIP module and then receives the demands from Colonel Dubaku. He threatens to use the CIP module to take down American infrastructure systems unless Taylor withdraws all attack groups by this time tomorrow. He wants confirmation that Taylor has started to retreat the aircraft carriers within 3 hours.  All in all, it’s a well constructed threat in that it puts all of the blame and decision making on to Taylor with a preventable way of saving American lives (domestically and in Sangala), but Taylor will have none of it.  She wants the NSA to shore up the firewall and clearly still does not understand that that is a difficult task because they can’t rebuild the firewall in 3 hours. Taylor wants the FBI to work Almeida hard from the Africa side. What other side is there?

Jack, Renee, Moss, and Tony all arrive back at the FBI building via helicopter and Moss grills Renee for going in solo.  Renee tells him there is a leak in the FBI and Moss acts mostly surprised.  Jack carefully explains how they know there’s been a leak and Moss seems to believe him. Moss locks down security protocols and limits access to those with higher clearance.  Renee tells Jack there’s no one she trusts more than Moss and I am suspicious.  Janeane Garofolo prepares Tony for interrogation and Renee asks for her help in tightening security measures around the office.  Tony looks stone cold as he’s sitting in the room.  Edgar 2.0 is pissed that he no longer has clearance to do whatever he wants. The Following Takes Place Between 9:00 A.M. and 10:00 A.M.

Air Traffic Control is monitoring GSA117 trying to determine why the lost control when they discover Tony is controlling the flight.  We get several shots of a little boy with his mom; we are not moved. Janeane Garofolo reports that NSA is trying to find the point of entry and Edgar 2.0 says they’ve never seen anything like this before.

Jack and Renee report back to Moss that Schecter was killed by a sniper and they’ve sealed off the building where the shot came from.  Moss asks Renee if she’s okay in a hushed caring tone and it’s all but assured that they’re doing it; to her credit though it does seem like Renee is the one wearing the pants in this relationship. Jack realizes that Tony probably has an informant in the FBI department because how else could they have a sniper in position so quickly. My money is still on Moss. Renee is quite defensive that she has good people; Jack and his Members Only jacket are given a timeout. (more…)

This episode opens with Chet, JD and Sarah all sitting around talking in the bedroom. Chet finds some lube and jokes around with JD about him “trying to get some”, but his jokes turn to dropped jaws when he finds a Magnum condom. Because he’s a 12 year-old, Chet immediately runs out to tell Ryan that their roommate has an enormous package. Join me after the jump to find out what other revelations were made this episode.

It is I, DougOLis-long time commenter/first time contributor, who will guide you through another season of the most intense show on television, 24. These recaps should come in a more timely matter in the future, but for now this is what you get.

A recap of where things stand following 24: Redemption – War broke out in the Southern Africa nation of Sangala when General Benjamin Juma overthrew democratically elected Prime Minister Motobo.  Jack happened to be hiding in Sangala with an old friend, Carl Benton, at a school founded by Benton at the time. When Juma’s Colonels started “recruiting” child soldiers, Benton and Jack transported the kids from the school to the American Embassy but not before Benton gave his life. In order to secure passage for the children into the embassy, Jack was forced to turn himself in to the State Department.

Meanwhile back in the United States, Allison Taylor was sworn in as the new President after defeating former President Noah Daniels.  On his way out President Daniels seemingly did no favors to the incoming President by providing General Juma with arms and condoning the coup.  President Taylor’s son Roger found out from a friend, Chris, that a few shady businessmen led by Jonas Hodges, Jon Voight, may have had some involvement in the providing of arms and coup after Chris discovered sketchy bank transactions.  Before Chris was able to provide Roger with tangible evidence, he was tortured and killed by Jonas Hodges’ men.

Now on to Day 7, the _th worst day in Jack Bauer’s life. As always, events occur in real time.

Welcome back my friends to the show that thankfully has yet to end and keeps raking in gobs and gobs of entirely deserved awards. Thank you, Hollywood Foreign Press, for getting it right. Alec Baldwin – Best Actor in a Television Series (Comedy or Musical). Tina Fey – Best Actress in a Television Series (Comedy or Musical). 30 Rock – Best Television Series (Comedy or Musical). Aww yeah.

Jenna is telling Liz about the new Janis Joplin biopic that Sheinhardt-Universal is producing, but Liz can’t hear her over her baby mania. There’s a kiddo over at Kenneth’s desk that she finds way more interesting than Jenna’s desire for an audition. She simply walks right past Jenna and starts talking. “Oh, what a cute little girl! Or boy, if you grow up and feel that that’s what’s inside you.” Mom’s either heard what Liz did to the hairdresser’s baby or merely senses the waves of crazy coming off of her and wheels the infant away. Jenna questions where Liz got the baby shoe in her hand. Liz: “It isn’t stealing if it fell on the ground!”

“Cannon” was one of my favorite beats from whenever it was out.

Wale’s very good on this, but Wayne blacks out. If “One egg short of the omelet/Simon says, shoot a n—a in his thigh and leg/And tell him catch up like mayonnaise” is sick, that O’Bannons line is bubonic plague.

Assuming last night was the final episode of the fantastic Friday Night Lights, I think it’s only appropriate that we break out the Explosions today. And, please, watch the NBC run of Season 3.

Also, hopefully the music will still work what with the new crackdown on “unauthorized” YouTube videos. If this gets heavily enforced, we’re gonna have some problems here at YMR…

Well, it’s not like this hasn’t happened before. And I’m sure we both knew I wasn’t going to catch at least one night. Well, I knew. I highly doubt you care a bit about me. Anyways, I didn’t get to see the show last night. There are reasons, there are always reasons. But I had planned to watch it this morning and write about it. Except ABC’s player is acting like a little bitch right now. And I really don’t want to download the show. And it’s not streamed by Hulu. And I hate doing reviews/posts after 12 PM. It’s almost no point in doing them cause you would have caught it by then. So yeah, no luck for last night’s episodes people.

But just because I haven’t seen it doesn’t mean y’all can’t talk about it. How was Maddox dismissed? Is Kelso still at the hospital? If so was there an explanation given? Is Cox the new Chief of Medicine yet? Did JD and Elliot get back together like we all know they are even if some of us would give away our left ovary so that wouldn’t happen? (Sigh) Are there going to be two episodes every Tuesday for the rest of Season 8? Discuss in the comments. I’m gonna try to catch the two epis before next week. And work out my problems with ABC’s player.

This is from T.I.’s last album, T.I. Vs. T.I.P.

That doesn’t mean it’s not sneering rap with a great Danja beat.

Last week, the return of 90210 had teen pregnancy, theft, illegitimate children who were not actually legitimate children, and the promise of someone passing out in chemistry class, making West Beverly High very similar to rural Iowa. This week, secrets will be revealed and boyfriends get mad when their girlfriends are knocked up by someone else… also similar to rural Iowa. And everywhere else in the world.

Join me, after the jump, to get DeadOn’s 411 on 90210 for Episode 13, “Love Me or Leave Me” (more…)

This is would have been Kevin Rudolf with Lil Wayne, “Let it Rock,” but Warner decided to pull pretty much every embeddable version of the music people would share for them for free. So you get Nas’ and Rudolf’s “NYC” instead.

It’s electro-stomp gone male, and with the rumor that Weezy’s going to be releasing a rock album, it seems like something I should at least prepare your ears for. (Sorry.)

After an episode in which JoJo’s mom Mrs.B took helicopter parenting to a whole new level, each Boy is off to the Virgin Islands with his Momma and his top three girls (well, save for JoJo, since his Momma said no girl was good enough – he only gets two).

This week, NBC’s Promo Guy has hinted Erica will tell of her sordid past, Mrs.B will call it hell, and every mother will tell her son he is making a terrible choice. How will the son’s respond? Learn – after the jump…

Olivia and Whitney are working and Olivia is very proud of her use of socials in place of socialites.  DVF herself actually makes an appearance this week.    She wants to know if Whitney likes it and if she’s learning anything.  Whitney says she is and compliments DVF.  Olivia doesn’t seem to happy that Whitney is getting praise.

So this season MTV decided to head back to New York for their 3rd time in The Big Apple, settling the new cast in Red Hook, Brooklyn. Considering that they went with 8 strangers, rather than 7, this time, we have increased opportunities for one of the cast members to get mugged. After all, the introduction of an IKEA next to the Gowanus notwithstanding, this is a neighborhood that in the 1990s was referred to as one of the worst neighborhoods in America and the “crack” cocaine capital of the US. Join me after the jump to meet the new fish and see how much trouble they get into during their initial foray.
