It’s a time-honored tradition in hip-hop to spend more time squawking about who the “G.O.A.T.” (Greatest of All Time, for the uninitiated) is, or squabbling over who the “Best Rapper Alive” is, than actually listening to their music and reacting to it at a personal, critical level.

Still, the idea of settling it all still fires passions and drives page views, so VIBE is doing a month-long, pale imitation of what could be a great idea. Here’s your bracket. Let’s hop in. (more…)

I finally broke down and Amazoned this CD yesterday.

This isn’t on it. But it’s great. (Expect an album review next Friday.)

(Down it, no DJ, here. Props to Splash and Eskay.)

Well kids, we told ya to pick up the Watson Twins debut full length, Fire Songs, a couple of weeks ago when it came out. And, yeah, it’s pretty darn good. The lovely Twins have a video for their single “How Am I To Be” ready and here it is. Enjoy.

And, of course, go pick up Fire Songs.

Jerkwheat, Chris Bridges would disagree with your opening sentence.

The Preview is free and available over here. Props to Shake and Meka.

There is absolutely nothing that I think is probably worth your time coming out this week. Seriously. Check out New Music Tipsheet. Check Amazon. Diddly squat. Nada. Poop. Those are your choice. So, instead, I’ll turn to the annals of the one-hit-wonder trying to make a comeback. I give you the new single from Rick Springfield.

Kudos to you, Rick, for saying “Fuck it, I’m just changing the words to “Jesse’s Girl” and hoping for the best”. You have balls, friend. Balls.

The reason I’m posting at dark ‘o clock? I think it’s the life-threatening case of earworm this song’s given me.

There were probably psychotropics involved in the making of the video, and I don’t actually think I’ll ever watch that again. Or should. (more…)

So, uh, about Friday…

…you have no idea how tempting the Ruben Studdard video was.

There’s still a tourney going on, and I’ll post what I thought about that last bracket when I get a chance, but I’m going to try to compress everything this week into one post with a little less wordiness, then come back stronger with things when we reach the Sweet Sixteen of this thing.

Hey, its Friday already. Huzzah and whatnot.

There was a time when we did Friday F**k Music. I’m thinking of going more along the lines of Flashback Fridays. Or I’m not gonna stick to that either and it’ll just be random 80s songs that I feel like hearing. Like today.

What you want me to do, I’m sorry!

Nas keeps me coming back. Go here when this gets de-Tubed. Oh, and “I watch CBS/And I see BS” is a great line on a Viacom channel.

If you haven’t heard this song, prepare to be earwormed.

Tyga’s not a great rapper, and Travis McCoy just looks like a low-rent version of Joakim Noah every time I see him, but this thing bounces, is catchy as SARS, and is Idolator’s official song of the summer.

Maybe we’ll do our own. You hear me, Professor?

Well, unless you have a secret thing for Miley Cyrus (the police aren’t coming yet…) it is a pretty meh week for new releases. Oh, wait – you’ve heard me say that before right? The hipsters are happy though, cause Black Kids’ album is finally coming out…

It’s like American Apparel has a house band. And if you aren’t a hipster douchebag…Well, there’s always 90s nostalgia… (more…)
