Random Shit To Make You Angry Monday, June 30, 2008

So, I was just reading a random stupid article about The Hills (cause I’m 17% gay) on USA Today (cause I’m 62% dumb) and I came across this quote from Heidi..

“I don’t even want to talk about that,” Montag says. “There were rumors about a sex tape, but I had nothing to do with that. God knows the truth in all of this, and at the end of the day, that is the only thing that matters. Jesus was persecuted, and I’m going to get persecuted, ya know? But it doesn’t matter to me.

Jesus and Heidi Montag. Ideological twins.

The newest feature to DeadOn’s Music Commentary, this is “I Spent Money On This?”, taking a self-deprecating look at my numerous bad musical purchases.

After the jump, a cassette I am almost certain I opened once, played half way through, and never touched again.

Yes, I know these recaps would be more effective if they weren’t presented 2.5 days after the episode airs, but I have a real life here, people! Anyway, this episode opens with Brianna getting a phone call from Alex Band (you know, the guy she sang back-up for at the benefit concert? the former lead singer of The Calling? Keep up, people!) where he thanks her, and asks if she wants to come into the studio to record her vocals. Brianna heads to the studio and begins recording, but she has a really difficult time and decides that it isn’t her “kind of music” so she stops. Join me after the jump to find out if this lazy girl will ever work at her dream.

The Farmer Picks A Bride Friday, June 27, 2008

After seven weeks of breaking city girl hearts and making Mrs.JB* wish she could drink, tonight, Our Farmer Matt will be choosing his blushing bride-to-be. And given this is the show which gave us the tasteful elimination of “stick your hand in the cow’s uterus” and the tactful “I’m going to put your name in lights… to kick you out“, I can only imagine the proposal will be one which every viewer of the CW will take note of for their own future question-popping.

So, drop to one knee, get a tissue, and join me after the jump (a day late thanks to power outages; thanks Alliant Energy!) for the biggest question one she should only have to say yes to once in her life

So, this is the obligatory post in the blogworld in which we bid farewell to Will Leitch. Obviously, we at DeadOn have every reason in the world to be thankful to Will. Both DeadOn and Ladies… were both born of Deadspin, and not just Deadspin, but of DU!AN. And on the same night at that. I don’t do long, eloquent anythings well – so I’m not going to try here. All I’m gonna say is this: Thank you, Will. Thank you for providing a web site where we could all gather with other smart asses who don’t really want to perform our jobs from 9-5. Thank you for providing the place where we’ve met great new friends, both online and in the real world. Thank you for all of your work over the past few years. I’ll be sure to set up a “Will Leitch” Google Alert now, because God knows I’m not about to start reading New York Magazine. God speed you, Midwestern Blog Emperor.

Hi boys and girls, I’m going to be bringing you YMR on Wednesdays.  In honor of the CWS final game this seems appropriate.

I’m not going to bullshit you. The next several weeks are absolutely godawful in terms of new releases worth giving a flying monkey’s poo about. But, as always, I’ll try to find reason to help you keep on keeping on…

New Alejandro Escovedo this week, so we got that going for us… (more…)

This episode opens up at night with Kimberly and Brianna talking about getting two new roommates (to replace Greg and Joey). In anticipation, and unsure of who the new roommates might be, Will moves in with Dave. We then get a nice little scene of Will and Janelle out on a date, eating at a Chinese restaurant. Join me after the jump to see just silly Will can be.

Early! And with added Weezy review below!

It’s really, really hard to just pick five songs from these two tapes for this week, but this is the “Surviving the Times” remix, which is, besides the two already featured, the one song from Nas’ that I pick out most often.

Hit the jump for links to tapes and and that review.

After a spectacular opening week, the Finalists returned with a resounding thud. With only a few performances that rose to the level of Good amongst several that were somewhere between uninspired and bleargh, does season 4 actually hold the promise we all thought it did? Let’s see after the jump. (more…)

It is a Final Four of a whole different kind – no pools, no wagers, no hoopla in a semi-major city which just happens to have a large arena. No, the Final Four of the Farmer Wants a Wife is here, and after replaying the stupidest elimination ever – checking if a cow is pregnant – I ponder the number of ways the show should have changed DF Dub’s “Fell In Love With a Country Girl” from the Big Brown Couch. Join me… after the jump. (more…)

It’s amazing how little time one has to blog when one doesn’t have Internet access at work and when the power goes out at home during the weekend. Luckily, there’s still time for my take on the Top 20 before they’re reduced to the Top 16. (more…)

This is “The Kramer,” and you should put on headphones…

…because you already know what Wale’s responding to here.

Some thoughts: This song is fascinating, by the way, great, but demanding; I listened to C3 (it sold a million, and retarded creativity), straight through this morning and overall impression is positive but not overwhelmed; look for revivals of older DeadOn hip-hop features in the month to come, as well as the non-music features I’ve been hinting at in the coming week or two.
