We are at the half-way point folks, six are gone and six remain. I’m somewhat surprised that Syesha has survived this long and really the only OMG SHOCKING elimination was maybe Michael Johns last week. It all feels like a build-up to the inevitable Battle of the Davids in the final, but with five weeks left, anything can happen. This week brings us the schlock supreme coming straight off Broadway and your local community theatre…it’s Andrew Lloyd Webber week after the jump…

Jerkwheat:

Dear God, help us all – it’s Andrew Lloyd Webber week. Can we bring back Danny Noriega for a rousing rendition of “Mr. Mistoffeles”? This week, like all weeks it seems, has trainwreck written all over it.
You’d have to think that this is the week that Dreamboat has been wetting himself waiting for and the week his dad has had picked out for Archie since the audition. The glory songs this week would have to
be “Memory”, “Music of the Night”, and “Don’t Cry For Me Argentina” – amongst many, many cheesy others. I nominate David Cook to “rock” something from Jesus Christ Superstar or Joseph and the Technicolor
Dreamcoat. Same with Castro. Archuletta seems made for a stab at a Phantom song. Carly will be our Evita sacrifice…or maybe Brooke? Syesha with “Memory”, perhaps?

JB*:

I know this is probably getting repetitive, but this has the potential markings of another rough week.  Outside of Dreamboat, no one seems made for Andrew Lloyd Webber music.

However, every time I have said that, people have surprised me, so maybe it will be okay.  But I wouldn’t wait with baited breath this time around.  I also admit I am in no position to pick the songs for everyone from Webber’s musicals – all I have seen are Superstar and Dreamcoat, as well as the Evita movie.

For what it is worth, E! Online had news about KLC’s engagement, announced after her dismissal, was that she was intending to perform “Don’t Cry for Me, Argentina”.  As for the rest, other than assuming Dreamboat will be the best, DCook will try to rock something (from Superstar?), and Paula will talk about how the performers look.

Since we’re down to the top six, I’ll say Top Two will be Archuleta and Cook; the bottom two will be Syesha and Carly.  Syesha goes.

Note:  Mrs.JB*s summary of the episode – “Oh, sweet Jesus, don’t make me watch this week”

Matt_T:

I’ve never seen an Andrew Lloyd Webber musical and may know 1 or 2 songs this week at best.  Why is this a theme? Its too bad they dont’ release the numbers for iTunes purchases, because I’d bet this week will be the lowest yet.  That said,  I’m sure the judges will love this week and all the Archuletta fans will too, but I am not looking forward to this at all.
Bottom three this week:  Jason, Carly and Brooke with Brooke leaving us.
Fat-Fat:

I am with Matt on this one. Don’t know much about ALW and may know a couple songs. Agreed that Dreamboat should slay this week. I could see Carly with her big voice make a great impression to get back in the graces of Simon. I see Brooke struggling. I really hope Jason does some sort of hula dancing or some such shit just to hate him more. The guys impressed last week when we thought the gals had the upper hand. The guys will win again.

Bottom 3 I see Carly, Brooke and Syesha. Jason will probably deserve to be in there and won’t be. Leaving….I’ll say my Syesha.

In Conclusion:

We’ve got a tie! 2 for Syesha and 2 for Brooke. Guess we’ll have to see what happens tonight…

DISAGREE THAT JASON DESERVES TO BE IN THE BOTTOM THREE. HE IS THE ONLY TRUE TOTAL PACKAGE ON THE SHOW FROM PERSONALITY,TALENT AND LOOKS AS FAR AS I AM CONCERNED. DON’T LIKE EITHER DAVIDS. DAVID A. IS BORING OH SO BORING AND DAVID C. IS SO SO FAKE. I THINK DAVID A. SHOULD GO BUT IT WILL PROBABLY BE CARLY OR SYESHA. PRAISES TO JASON CASTRO FOR BEING HIMSELF AND NOT PRETENDING TO BE ANYTHING HES NOT. YEAH TO HULA DANCES AND SOMEWHERE OVER THE RAINBOW.

2. Abs - Tuesday, April 22, 2008

I think David Cook’s going to rock “Close Every Door To Me” from “Joseph…”. Someone will probably sing Don’t Cry For Me Argentina, even though KLC was supposed to sing it.

As much as I hate to say it, I think Brooke’s gone. She is not meant to sing ALW. I wish they would make it just a Broadway night so they could sing some decent songs and none of this ALW drivel.

5. Jerkwheat - Tuesday, April 22, 2008

PRAISES TO FAT-FAT FOR BEING HIMSELF AND SPEAKING HIS MIND IN THE ROUNDTABLE AND NOT PRETENDING TO BE ANYTHING HE IS NOT.

Who knew Paula was a seahawks fan?

7. JB* - Tuesday, April 22, 2008

Sorry – is it Barbaro, Crazy Cat Lady, or LadyVictoryUSA commenter day here on DeadOn?

I cannot keep them straight…

8. DougOLis - Tuesday, April 22, 2008

I’m inclined to think Jason is the most fucked this week, but that probably means he’ll do the best.

Syesha seems to always go big and fuck it up but America doesn’t seem to care, so look for that to happen again tonight.

In general I don’t think Brooke matches up well with the big ballads, but there’s gotta be something for her out there and it could be interesting.

DC, DA, and Carly certainly have the highest potential but they could fuck it up. A lot of songs could be transformed into Rock Operas from Phantom or Jesus Christ for either DC or Carly.

I’m just hoping someone comes out in a catsuit, someone in a technicolor dreamcoat, and someone dressed like Jesus. Not holding my breath.

9. Jerkwheat - Tuesday, April 22, 2008

the appropriate costumes would, in fact, make this the best Idol episode EVAR.

10. JB* - Tuesday, April 22, 2008

I am wondering how the schedule of mentors was done… since it feels like we are building towards styles which are beneficial to Dreamboat.

Carey – which he nailed (the song, not her, though hell, ya never know), Webber, and Neil Diamond is still to come.

They would never do anything like that, eh?

11. Fat-Fat - Tuesday, April 22, 2008

JB. Wow. Seems like that would do that. He is the most marketable no?

12. Fat-Fat - Tuesday, April 22, 2008

3VEN IF JASON SI GOD 2NIGHT IMA TRASH HIM ANYWAY!111!!!1! WTF WUT DO U THINK OF TAHT SEAHAWKEI!11!11! WTF

13. Abs - Tuesday, April 22, 2008

Well, it is the year for a boy to win.

14. DougOLis - Tuesday, April 22, 2008

No way Dreamboat is the most marketable; maybe for a blip but that’s it. His ceiling is Clay Aiken (maybe) and that’s not a good thing.

15. Jerkwheat - Tuesday, April 22, 2008

Doug, you think like me on this, I don’t think Archie is really gonna be a big seller – but the money people in this (Simon, Clive Davis, et al.) seem to think it’s still 1998 and teen pop will sell 10 million cds. Look at how amazed they have been by Blake last year and David this year and the claims of “originality”.

16. JB* - Tuesday, April 22, 2008

I was thinking his ceiling was more Taylor Hicks than Clay Aiken.

The most marketable was probably the blonde who did spot on imitations, eliminated back in the round of 16 (her name escapes me). Everyone now would most likely end up in an artistic niche.

Someone asked the question in last week’s roundup as to what the point of Idol is – find the best singer or the singer with the best potential. Simon has said several times that this is a SINGING competition, so I would say the stated goal is the best performer during the show. If he is going to stress that, than he gets what he gets.

17. jandrenguyen - Wednesday, April 23, 2008

i think that David Archuleta shines every time he performs and so far all the songs have worked for him he is my american idol

18. DougOLis - Wednesday, April 23, 2008

i think that the sun shines everyday i wake up and so for all the stars in the universe it is my star

19. JDR - Wednesday, April 23, 2008

Syesha was one of the best ones last night on Andrew Lloyd Webber week! She hasn’t been my favorite, but she has had her moments and she looked like a star last night! She definitely does NOT deserve to leave this week. I think the bottom two are most definitely Brooke and Jason and they are about a coin-toss apart after last night. Brooke appears to be crumbling under pressure…Jason was just out of his element, whatever that may be? As for the third, I don’t know??? Personally, I would put David Cook. His low range at the beginning and the end was not good.

20. JDR - Wednesday, April 23, 2008

Sorry, Jerkwheat…I have to disagree with you. I think David Archuleta is very marketable and not only in the teeny-bopper division. He has a very nice voice…he has looks…he has personality…and he is just “himself”–he doesn’t have to try to be something he isn’t! Plus, it goes without saying that as far as a role model for younger people, he would be a plus and I believe you would have to agree that young people today need some real, human, kid-next-door role models because there aren’t very many of those around. I am in my 50’s…I have a degree in music…and I would buy David Archuleta’s CDs…probably before any of the others. I know personal preference has a lot to do with it, but he doesn’t deserve the rap he’s been getting. He can’t control what his father does any more than you can control yours or I could control mine. His father isn’t in the running for American Idol…David is!
