American Idol Roundtable – Top 7 Week Pre-Show Tuesday, April 15, 2008

Posted by Matt_T in Bloggers Gone Wild, jerkwheat, matt_T, maybe you should read a book instead, reality TV, singing?.
trackback

After last week’s exhausting 3 nights of Idol gives back and the (somewhat) surprising exit (That JB* totally called)  of Michael Johns we are left with 7 hopefuls.  Join me after the jump as we give our  pre-show thoughts on Mariah Carey week

Jerkwheat:

So, Top 7 Week and Mariah is going to be the mentor and the
contestants are all singing Mariahs hits. Score one for the ladies as
I’m just not wrapping my head around David Cook singing “Fantasy” or
something along those lines. Any thoughts on this week? Song
predictions, etc? Sorry for my brevity – but, work is about to get
INSANE.

Fat-Fat:

Well, besides Kreskin, I was completely wrong last week. This should be a slam dunk week for the girls. They all are pretty good vocally besides what hate we have for them. That said, I think KLC, Carly and Jason C. will be in the bottom 3. I really don’t know any Carey songs but I heard she is a good singer. So that’s what I’ll listen for. I pick Jason C. to go home because he has too.

Matt_T:

I’m looking forward to this week.  I like some Mariah songs.  Unfortunately I don’t think anyone will be singing my favorite “All I want for Christmas is You”

Here’s what I hope to hear from everyone:
Archuletta:  “One Sweet Day”
KLC:  “Hero”
Carly: “We Belong Together”
Brooke: “Always Be My Baby”
Syesha: “Vision of Love”

I have no idea what Cook or Castro could pick.  I expect that we’llsee both of them in the bottom 3 with Carly again and Castro goes home.

Jerkwheat:

Does Mariah have any songs about Jesus or the Troops? That would be a
good choice for KLC….

JB*:

We may be in for an even bigger train wreck this week with The Tutoring of Mimi coming.  If I understood the theme, it is just her songs which hit number one that the Idols will be performing – and when you consider a large number of those are off of her first few albums, they likely will include the bottle-shattering high notes.

Whomever claims “We Belong Together” and “Don’t Forget About Us” will likely be the star performers, since those are the tamer choices.  No one will likely tackle “Touch My Body” (though I wish Carly would since, well, ya know) with it being her current smash and would almost be guaranteed as her Wednesday night performance.

Matching up songs (which I will note, I have not heard many since the mid-90s) –

David Archuleta, “I’ll Be There”, mostly ballad-y of the catalog
Jason Castro, “I Don’t Wanna Cry”
David Cook, “Dreamlover” – for some reason, I can hear this one being adjusted easiest by him
KLC, “Always be My Baby”
Syesha Mercado, “Vision of Love” – she may as well keep taking on iconic performances
Carly Smithson, “Don’t Forget About Us”
Brooke White, “We Belong Together”

I know one of the songs was with Boyz II Men and was decent to a freshman JB*, but it may have just been that it had a video where she looked hot.   I think that was Fantasy, though, and it had multiple squeals.

Anyway – I think Syesha goes, after the hype of her being the most fast forwarded through by TiVo last week, and her attempts to once again show she is a diva.  The big question is who joins her in the bottom three – and my bet would be a guy (Castro?) and Carly, since no song seems to suit her at all.

In conclusion:

This week should be entertaining to say the least.  Mariah’s songs have a big potential for a trainwreck, but we may be pleasantly surprised by some of the contestants.  We seem to be in agreeance that Jason and Carly will be in the bottom three but are split on who will go home.  So enjoy Mariah Carey night and please, no Glitter jokes.

The guys (no, Archie is not a guy) are fucked this week.

Re Carly: it’s already been revealed that she’s singing “Without You” at the suggestion of Simon.

Didn’t Reba McEntire do a Mariah song? Or was it the other way around? Any chance KLC does that one?

I think they’ll save One Sweet Day for the group sing.

I really hope Carly doesn’t go home before KLC but I think it might happen that way.

Anyone else find it sort of funny that most clips of Kristy singing in her farewell video, she had her eyes closed?

So uhhh, what happened to the recap?

I wish that instead of the Celebrate Me Home montage, they actually played the sound of the person’s past performances.

Did anyone else catch when Carly shoved Seacrest last night after finding out they were safe?
