Your Morning Rock – April 11th, 2008 Friday, April 11, 2008

Every so often, the DeadOn mailbox gets sent a nice little gem. Granted, it’s usually some terrible band wanting us to look at their MySpace, but sometimes we get some quality. This is an example of the quality and when we get quality that we like, we like to share.

This Is Ivy League (or is it THIS IS IVY LEAGUE, like in the e-mail…) play some catchy guitar pop with some lovely melodies – both of which are clear pathways to my musical heart. So, enjoy “London Bridges” and be on the lookout for their self-titled album, which hit stores last Tuesday.

Oh, check them out on the web here. Have a good weekend gang.

It took the opening chord for me to like it. I think I’ve heard about them as a sort of sub-Vampire Weekend Vampire Weekend, but only in passing on other sites.

Really? You get whoring emails? Lucky.

Pretty good sweet little music.

I was gonna make the Vampire Weekend comparison too – but I really think this comes from a totally different place musically. No Paul Simon worldbeats that I could find on the album. It gets a bit twee in places, but it’s just a happy shimmery pop album – which seems to be a dying art.

Also, back when we first launched, there were a lot more whoring e-mails – now it’s mostly info from a few labels and PR groups.

I don’t really get the Vampire Weekend comparison (other than VW going to Columbia). To me it’s more like Seu Jorge’s work in The Life Aquatic, Jose Gonzalez, Belle & Sebastian or Peter Bjorn and John.
