It’s here for the first line (I couldn’t think up any other baseball references, but feel free to leave me some in the comments) and because I’m feeling that this season could be deja vu for Red Sox Nation.

And, really, didn’t Juan Pierre once run base like Juan Pierre? (I’ll be cheering for my Braves, currently the worst team in the majors, thankyouverymuchRyanZimmerman, to make Jayson Stark look like a savant.)

Yeah, yeah, there was an Opening Day in Japan last week and an Opening Night event here in DC at our lovely new ballpark (which I’ll report back on after I visit it in 2 weeks), but it’s Opening Day for my Tigers and a vast majority of MLB, so there is only one song we can play…

My Scrubs Top 10 Friday, March 28, 2008

So Scrubs is coming back next week. Woo hoo! As you can tell, I’m very excited about that.

But the better (or worst, depending on your perspective) news coming this week is that it looks like the show has been renewed for an eighth season and will probably leave NBC and be shown on ABC. All I can say is about damn time. NBC hasn’t given a damn about the show in a long time. They were happily going to let this season finish out and let that be that. Scrubs might not bring in the big viewer numbers like The Office, but its fans are very loyal. We had to be with all the switching around nights and time slots and whatnot. ABC seems to have a real interest in having it in its lineup and all I have to say is that it’s nice to see a network that actually cares about the show. But the most important news that comes out of this is that we’ll finally get an ending to the show. While I think having an eighth season is good news, I completely understand why some want it to end now. But I would freak out if we didn’t get a proper ending. I’ve spent seven seasons with the staff of Sacred Heart, a rush ending wouldn’t do the show any justice.

Now, with that out of the way let’s get back to the point of this post. I said in my last post that I wanted to do a Top 10 of the best songs Scrubs played during it’s tenure after the series finale. Well, now that it looks like that series finale is going to be May 2009, I didn’t want to wait that long. So I’ma do the Top 10 now. I’m sure there’s going to be songs during the rest of this season and next that I’m going to love and will personally make me want to change this list. But we’ll get there then. Hell, we can do this again next year. Why not?

So, here is my Top 10. Maybe we can make this a feature the rest of this season and next. If there is enough interest, everyone can do their own top 10 and send it to me. I can post it on Thursday and we’ll get to the recap on Friday. I am 100% sure we’re not all going to have the same 10 on our lists. So give me your opinions on the idea in the comments and let me think about this a bit and I’ll get back to y’all next week*. Now, on to the Top 10. (more…)

Ladies and gentlemen, welcome back to my season’s worth of recaps for How I Met Your Mother. Welcome, once more, to Urban HIMYMs.

If you watched CBS over the last week (and since there was a small thing called the opening rounds of the NCAA Division I Mens’ Basketball Tournament on, I suspect you might have done so.), then you know that this week’s How I Met Your Mother is the one featuring a special guest appearance by one Ms. Britney Spears. Some might call this a win-win, HIMYM perhaps attracts new viewers who want to see Britney while Britney tries to prove that her life is not some form of Mike Patrick endorsed train wreck. However, the good people over at CBS’ promo department decided that they wanted to make absolutely, 100% sure you were aware of this guest appearance and used the high rated vehicle of the NCAA Tournament to help promote it, leading to some blowback. I personally thought that it was probably a poor choice to use the line in question, especially because I was sure that the conversation she was having with Barney was likely to end up being a throw away line. I was right. I don’t feel good about that, but I was right. As a ratings grabbing ploy, it also worked, drawing HIMYM‘s largest audience since the Season 2 premiere.

That said, at the core of this guest star vehicle is a really good episode, one which is just overflowing with what The Bad One referred to as “Continuity Porn”. So we’ll see how this breakdown goes.

And away we go… (more…)

Hello Friends, I’ll be taking you through another season of my favorite, totally not scripted at all reality show.

Finally, Lauren has made it to Paris, she and Whitney arrive in the airport. Their driver for Teen Vogue picks them up and they butcher the name of one of the stores they are supposed to go to. They decide to go pick up their gowns rather than pick up shoes for the debutantes. I think this may end up being a bad decision. Cue the Natasha Beddingfield and join me and the gang after the jump.

Gauntlet III Recap – An Unsatisfying Ending Saturday, March 22, 2008

When last we met, the Rookies had decided to “protect” Eric, feeling that his weight would slow the Veterans down in the final challenge, and chosen to send Adam into the Gauntlet. This episode picks up with the Veterans moving to the Gauntlet for their own deliberations of who to send in against Adam. While the general consensus is that they want to send in Danny, since he tried to cut a deal with the Rookies, no one on the Veterans team is willing to speak up first. Join me after the jump to find out what happens in this final episode of the season.

Ladies and gentlemen, welcome back to my season’s worth of recaps for How I Met Your Mother. Welcome, once more, to Urban HIMYMs.

Ahh, Saint Patrick’s Day. A wonderful time to enjoy being Irish, to celebrate that ancient heritage, and for most people, to go get stinking drunk. But, since I had the flu, and a nasty bit of the flu at that, I was laid up, kept in, and was able to get to my recap of the first post-WGA strike episode of How I Met Your Mother. I’m a little rusty at this, so please keep that in mind. Thank you.

I mean, c’mon, Pop Tarts is good for poppier music, right? Anyway, the urgent reason for this post is the video here, which I’m not quite sure how to embed, but will implore you to watch anyway. I couldn’t get past the first line without laughing; after watching the full thing, it’s like “Fight Club” without a story.

And I liked “Blackout,” too, and may yet review it here.

Well gang, I found this week to be terribly dull and lacking in any really memorable performances. I was pretty happy to have started it an hour late so that I could fast-forward through all the non-performance parts – that’s really the way to go with this show. As always, the rest of the crew has plenty to say about this week’s show…to the jump!
