Good news, Flappy! You get some solid new releases this week!

Woooooo Mike Doughty! Hit the jump for your weekly rundown…
Mike Doughty – Golden Delicious

The former Soul Coughing front man issues his fourth (if you count Skittish and Rockity Roll as full length…) solo album this week. I anticipate this becoming the soundtrack to my flight out west on Wednesday night, even if the lead single (“27 Jennifers” – as seen before the jump) has been around on a previous album. I’m rarely a fan of rehashing a song, but I will let it slide…this time.

Allison Moorer – Mockingbird

Want to touch the hiney. Seriously though, Steve Earle’s wife is a very talented singer and is a sweetheart of the alt-country set. The great Buddy Miller is the producer here as Moorer covers songs from Joni Mitchell, June Carter, Gillian Welch, and her sister Shelby Lynne. This should make for a very nice listen.

Gary Louris – Vagabonds

The Jayhawk and Golden Smog-er finally releases an album to call his own. Expect jangly guitars and big, harmonic choruses. In other words, it could very well be everything I love and more. Also, both Susanna Hoffs and Jenny Lewis contribute harmony vocals on a track. The sound of indie boys swooning is what you just heard.

Ray Davies – Working Man’s Cafe

It appears to be famous band front man solo project day. I enjoy The Kinks and thought Davies most recent solo effort, Other People’s Lives, was pretty darn good. It’s a shame that Davies waited until he was 60 to start cranking out solo albums.

The Mountain Goats – Heretic Pride

I’m not really a fan, but I’m willing to bet some of you are.

American Music Club – The Golden Age

The reunion delivers a second album, who would have thunk it?

Kidz Bop – Vol 13

That’s right – number 13!!!! The end is near! Run for your shelters!!

And that’s what the week shall bring – not bad, huh? Let’s talk about what I missed (I’ve got two in mind that someone is bound to mention…) and what you’re going to pick up.

I’m about ready to pimp slap Best Buy – no copies of Doughty to be found. And no Moorer or Louris either. It appears to be an iTunes frenzy for me tonight.

This is why I mourned the loss of Tower Records over here.

When you do pick up the Louris record I’m interested to hear your impressions of it.

5. Rockabye - Tuesday, February 19, 2008

Cough, cough–1520 Sedgwick–cough, cough.

Looks like I’m using up all those iTunes Gift Cards I got for Christmas this week.

Bell X1 has a new album out in the States. It’s been available in Ireland and the rest of Europe for a long time but this is the first of it showing up here. Pretty solid Indie music.
