And we’re pretty much tapped out on Grammys performances.
“Now, what the hell are you waiting for?”
It’s a damn good, if weird, performance; Jay changes his cadence for live performances, and his flow goes nicely over both “Numb/Encore” and “Yesterday”; Linkin Park’s Chester Barrington’s warble is shown up by the aging Paul McCartney; Jigga’s ad-libs throughout the Beatles classic are patently hilarious until the “sounds so beautiful, don’t you agree?”
And if you don’t get goosebumps when McCartney strolls out in the middle of the performance (which I did, listening to it with the video in the background while writing this) for sheer surprise alone, I don’t know that you’re human.
Sure, this takes the mash-up culture a little too far, and there were better songs from both the Jay/LP project and “The Grey Album,” which, should I ever find it, I’ll have up here for all to enjoy, but it’s experimental, which isn’t something you often get from the sometimes-stodgy Grammys.
A bonus Oscar performance:
Note the substitution of “witches” for “bitches” in the chorus, and the general awesomeness; remembering that Jon Stewart’s hosting this year’s Oscars also made me a little bit happier today.
There’s more coming, I remind you; check back on all the other days this week.
UPDATE: Okay, so the weeks to come will still have the one song a day minimum, and I’m going to try to get you ever greater variety and talent, but each day will be themed.
Because I’m a sucker for alliteration: Monday will definitely be Mixtape Monday, Tuesday may be Throwback Tuesday, Wednesday is going to be something starting with a W, maybe Way-Out Wednesday, Thursday is probably going to be remix-heavy (because R is your letter for Thursday in a day planner, natch), and Friday, is, of course, Freestyle Friday.
And today is sort of the first one. By sort of, I mean, “this is the worst freestyle ever.” But at least it’s at the Grammys, right?
It’s not on YouTube, but the link has a comments section, and they’re almost as funny as the freestyle is.
And I’m changing programming for next week, which I’ll explain here, later, when I get things ironed out. See above.
And see you later in all the other posts from this week and Monday afternoon.
