Um…So Do You Know When Scrubs Is Coming Back On? Friday, January 18, 2008

And no, that wasn’t some wannabe catchy title to a post. I’m genuinely asking all of you out there, do you know when Scrubs is going to come back on? Because there had been some articles out there claiming that yesterday was when it was coming back, but if you happen by NBC at 9:30 last night you saw some type of C/D-list Celebrity Apprentice on or some shit like that. I mean, how hard up on material is NBC that they have that going on right now?
Anyway, back to scheduling. There were rumors that the show was going to start next week, and then more saying the show will be back in February. With only five finished episodes left I guess it’s smart to back them up a bit, but it’s the middle of January and sooner or later you’re going to run out of new episodes. Might as well play them now, right? Or maybe that’s my inner junkie coming out. There is only so many Comedy Central and local syndication re-runs of seasons 2-3 I can take.
So if you know when Scrubs is going to start playing their final six episodes (so far) this season, holla at me. Let me know in the comments. And more Scrubs talk, although of the personal project kind, after the jump.
So one of the great things about Scrubs I think everyone can agree on is the music. And I’m looking to do an end of series, whenever that ending comes, Top 10 of the best use of music on the show. Or just the best songs used on the show period. Or something like that. But I suck at knowing what good music is. So that’s where I need you guys’ expertise. What were some of your favorite and/or best songs Scrubs ever used during its seven seasons? I really want to do this list at the end of the series, but I know that alone I’ll never do it justice. So as with any info you have on Scrubs coming back, in the comments just list some of your favorite songs that has been on the show. I’ll try to find the scene it goes to, although if you know what happened during the song that would be helpful. I do know one song that will go on the list, so consider nine or however many spots up for grabs. Song and clip below. Oh, if only they had never went back down this road we’d wouldn’t be at this “is JD and Elliot going to end up together?” mess.

Question by the old 97s is a good one, although your choice was definitely superior.
I’m gonna have to second the nomination of “Question”. If only because it’s one of my favorite songs EVAR.
I think you absolutely need some Colin Hay. Overkill is probably the best suggestion.
They’re not my favorite band and the song eventually got super played out, but The Fray’s How To Save A Life was used magnificently in a gut wrenching scene. Plus Scrubs was what made the song popular in the first place (I think).
I’ll think about some more. I haven’t heard anything about when it’s coming back but it seems like the studios are trying to spread out and bundle the new episodes as much as they can. They definitely all need to be played in a row so the market doesn’t get too confused.
Yeah, I love “Question” as well. But I didn’t want to just add all my favs from the show because it’ll be a lot of the sappy songs.

I had to look up the band (check out this site for a bunch of Scrubs music), but I also suggest Josh Radin and Winter in one of the best/hardest/most emotional/worst scenes in Scrubs history at the end of My Screw Up. He’s had a few other songs on Scrubs too.
I loved the Air Band version of More Than a Feeling.
A great scene, a great band, and a great song for The Polyphonic Spree’s Light and Day.

Here’s the gist of what the other comment said (without links, I think that’s what broke it). I recommend something by Ted’s band The Worthless Peons. “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” and “Underdog” are good bets.

Amy, the TV Gal at Zap2it, said in today’s blog: “I’ll be back on Monday with a look at each network’s strike survival situation (booo NBC. Boooo!).”
That doesn’t sound good for getting Scrubs back or properly.
I’ll always give props to The New Radicals “Mother, We Just Can’t Get Enough” from the Heather Locklear/Christa Miller Lawrence showdown.
Also, Rhett Miller’s “Our Love” and “Follow Through”, both amazing.
My all-time favorite though is “Half a World Away” by R.E.M., not only because I love that song anyway, but to have it be used to such great effect at the end of My Fishbowl, it’s just perfect.

My favs are of course Colin Hay (although I prefer Waiting for My Real Life to Begin instead of Overkill [original wasn’t on Scrubs but a patient sang it]), The Blanks doing a cover of Underdog and Facts of Life, POISON BY BELL BIV DEVOE (duh), Good Time by Leroy, Tell Her by Del Amitri, and Hey Julie by Fountains of Wayne.

Winter is also really good, although I found out firsthand that the acoustic version is on Scrubs, not the polished CD version.

What the heck… the NBC site said the 24th up until, um, the 24th – but now says nothing at all.
The use of Hallelujah at the end of “My Old Lady” was great, but I don’t think anyone can go wrong using that. Also in season 1, The Eels “Fresh Feeling” in My Hero.
DougOLis – I read somewhere that Scrubs recorded the episode with “How To Save A Life” prior to Gray’s Anatomy using it, but the Gray’s episode aired first (by like, days).
And is the one with the 70s sequence “My Kingdom:, when JD does his surgical rotation? I can clearly picture it, but am blanking on the episode.
The only time I liked the song “How to Save a Life” was when Scrubs used it. I don’t watch Grey’s Anatomy so screw them and their use of it.
JB-are you talking about the scene where JD and Turk come into the hospital as pimps? That’s the only music clip from that episode I can think of.

That was the scene I was thinking of. I couldn’t think of the song they were doing as they entered the hospital.
Martin Sexton’s “diner” is a good Scrubs song.
They entered the hospital as pimps to James Brown’s “The Payback”
For some reason I was feeling “Alive with the Glory of Love” by Say Anything at the end of last season when JD and Elliot were staring at each other. At the time I thought they were definitely gonna do it because of that song.

Scrubs is scheduled to come back on April 10, starting with the first 5 episodes from season 7. But there has been talk that the show will move to ABC.

Some of the music used for scenes on scrubs are incredible:
Ain’t No Reason by Brett Dennon in My No Good reason is quality when Liverne is in a car crash.
In the Sun by Joseph Arthur is also very good, when jack gets baptised.
Winter by Joshua Radin is great and theres another of his songs called ‘Closer’ thats very good.
Teds Bands version of over the rainbow is another good one.
How to Save a Life has to be one of the best purely cos of the scene it plays the background to.
There’s too many to mention but there some of my favourite ones.
