Your Morning Rock In Review – Just Outside The Top 10 Tuesday, December 18, 2007Posted by Jerkwheat in jerkwheat, Your Morning Rock.
With less than two weeks to go in the year, it’s about time YMR starting reminiscing over the year that was 2007. We were here for most of it, having launched in February, so I think we’ve got a decent grasp on this thing. So here is the plot for recapping the year of rock. This week will be all about the almost but not quite. It’s still what I consider to have been my amongst my favorites from the year, but they fell just outside my own Top 3. My 3 favorite albums of the year will start popping out the day after Christmas (you didn’t think we’d be here on the 24th and 25th did you?) and will take you through the end of next week.
Today, a couple more albums that fall just outside of my personal Top 10…Let’s hit the jump
Bright Eyes – Cassadega
After ambitiously releasing two albums at once last time, Connor Oberst returned earlier this year with one of his finer albums to date. “Four Winds” was exactly what Oberst needed to get his emo groove back, a toe-tapping acoustic stomp complete with reference to the Great Satan himself. Cassadega shows great growth but musically and lyrically and will hopefully serve as a cornerstone as Oberst starts to grow older with his audience.
Ryan Adams – Easy Tiger
Notice a trend here? Today is return to form day! Hooray! While Adams is not likely to ever please the old-school by recreating his solo debut masterpiece, he can certainly please them by showing us something resembling his so-called “alt-country”days. “Two” is one of his prettiest songs in years and “Halloweenhead” let us know he still has a sense of humor about himself. It’s time to expect big things from a Ryan Adams album again.
