Your Morning Rock – Wednesday, November 28th, 2007 Wednesday, November 28, 2007

This is a performance of A Quick One While He’s Away that The Who did for the Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus in 1968. As legend goes, the Rolling Stones felt somewhat upstaged by the Who’s performance and that’s part of why this video was hidden away for nearly 30 years, only to surface in 1996.

Keith Moon alone could upstage and outstage the Stones.

Best YMR ever.

The other legend is that The Who’s song “Substitute” is about their place in the British rock scene relative to The Rolling Stones. In other words, they were a substitute band for fans who couldn’t see the Stones or weren’t allowed to listen to their music or whatever.

I think I have to watch “The Kids Are Alright” tonight.
