I love that dirty water

Dear Tuffy,

I recently was presented with quite a dilemma. There had been an accident outside my apartment, and the water line was broken. I went to perform my nightly brushing, and the water was brown. I’m not talking like slightly murky water like you see in a tequila bottle, but I’m talking about something that you would expect to find in a New York sewer.

Dental health is important to me, and I searched for something that I could use in place of water, but orange juice seemed unwise, and Kool-Aid seemed like it would defeat the purpose of brushing. So I chose Diet Pepsi. I chose it for its low caloric content, and lack of cavity-inducing sugar.

My question to you is this: In place of water, what is the best fluid to brush your teeth with? Would an alcohol such as vodka or gin be good? Or should I stick to my proven Diet Pepsi method?

Dear Sally,

Real World Recap – Relationship Drama (Surprise!) Friday, September 7, 2007

So, this episode opens with an early morning view of KellyAnne crawling into bed with Cohutta, who is still sleeping. As he drifts in and out (not like that, pervs!), she begins rubbing his back. After several minutes of non-response, KellyAnne finally gives up and goes out into the living room. We see KellyAnne saying insightful things such as “He’s not my type” and “It’s just a phase”. Considering this show’s penchant (look it up!) for foreshadowing, why don’t you join me after the jump to view her pathetic shenanigans?

New Movie Releases – Week of 09/07/07 Friday, September 7, 2007

WTF is up, Doc?

Shoot ‘Em Up

Starring: Clive Owen, Monica Bellucci, Paul Giamatti

Pitch: Sin City as a joyful romp. With carrots.

Synopsis: Not much need for one here. Still, for completeness – Owen is a military powerhouse-cum-nanny protecting the baby of a prostitute (Bellucci) specializing in lactating fetishes from the nerdy evil of Giamatti.

Target Market: Young men. Oh, those supple young men with their disposable income and their lactating fantasies.

Why You Should See This Movie: It’s a taut 87 minutes of absurdism violence involving creative uses of guns (they open and close cabinets! they cut umbilical cords! they just might replace parachutes!) and a sly sense of humor.

In my real-life day job (turns out blogging via wordpress doesn’t pay the bills – stay in school kids!) I work in community development for a pretty large (Fortune 50) corporation. As part of my job, I keep track of our company’s effort in the areas of the Gulf Coast that were devastated by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Also, I lived on the Gulf Coast (Kemah, TX at the time) when the hurricanes struck. The Weather Channel’s own Harbinger of Doom – Jim Cantore – was stationed across the street from my apartment when Rita was approaching. That was my clue to get out of town quickly. Thankfully, Rita spared our apartment but the experience stuck with me and I’m always quick to support worthy causes related to hurricane relief. Enter Goin’ Home – A Tribute to Fats Domino.

Goin’ Home features a ton of great artists including Paul McCartney, Elton John, Tom Petty, BB. King, Willie Nelson, Marc Broussard, Ben Harper, Robert Plant, Neil Young, and many more covering the songs of Fats Domino. The proceeds all go towards wonderful charitable causes throughout New Orleans.

“…The Tipitina’s Foundation, a 501 ©(3) non-profit corporation dedicated to preserving the cultural legacy of New Orleans through music education for the youth and providing programs that support working musicians of New Orleans and the Gulf Region, conceived and executive produced Goin’ Home. The money raised from the sales of Goin’ Home will also go toward the rebuilding of Fats Domino’s home and to create a community center in the Crescent City’s still ravaged Lower 9th Ward. Proceeds of Goin’ Home will fund additional community related programs.”

Goin’ Home releases on September 25th and I’m more than happy to quote a presser when it’s for such a great cause. Big thanks to the folks at Vanguard Records who have provided us with an opportunity to post a couple of tracks from this compilation. Enjoy them and please take a moment to check out Tipitina’s Foundation as well.

Welcome back from the long weekend. It’s a pretty dead week for new releases (there are some good ones on the horizon though…) so let’s get past the pleasantries and just deal with the fact that a New Music Tuesday article isn’t worth it this week. So…here’s what we’re gonna do. What albums are you looking forward to the most coming up soon? For me, it’s the new Jimmy Eat World in October. I’m very excited about that. So, in the comments, let’s talk what’s coming up ok?

Manu Chao, ladies and gentlemen. So there is something worth checking out after all.

Ladies and Gentelmen. It is September 1st, 2007. That means today is the first Saturday of the 2007 college football season. While I was looking for “mascot fights” on youtube*, I came across this video. Also, this doesn’t mean I’m rooting for the Vols this week … Go Cal.

After the jump… more videos of mascots and football related stuff that didn’t make the cut.

*There is not nearly enough videos of mascot fights on youtube
