Real World Recap – Wow, Dunbar Annoys the Shit Out of Me. Friday, September 28, 2007Posted by The NY Kid in Fuck You Nibbles, MTV, reality TV, undergroundBTO.
This episode opens with the roommates getting a package from Contiki (the well-known “young adult” travel agency), and the girls go absolutely apeshit. This is followed by Cohutta proclaiming that he is concerned about working with them because none of the girls have ever had to work. Isaac and Dunbar agree, and they all sit around bitching about how they are capable of working so much harder than the girls (sexism much?). With that thrilling beginning to the episode, how could you possibly avoid joining me after the jump? You can’t – it was a rhetorical question.
The next morning Parissa goes into the boys’ rooms to wake them up, since she is concerned about being on time for their first day of work (seems reasonable, no?). Of course, Dunbar manages to take offense at being woken up and begins bitching immediately. Parissa then goes into the shower, where she she begins singing Amazing Grace (what, no ‘Adeste Fidelis’?). This annoys Dunbar and Tricia, who discuss exactly how annoyed they are. Tricia tells Dunbar “You were right – it’s like living with a bad Christina Aguilera” (so they live with Jessica Simpson? Hey-oh! I love ya, Jess, really).
On the way to work (in separate cars), Dunbar spends most of his time bitching about Parissa, and he comments that he thinks she is “too maternal” (e.g. making them snacks, waking them up for work). They all eventually make their way into the office and meet their boss, Sarah, who informs them that their job is to design a 2-day itinerary which will be included in the Contiki Sydney tour. She also tells them that they will be made tour managers, responsible for guiding people on the itinerary that they have designed. She then goes over the rules of conduct, which include “No vulgar language or denigration of any of your fellow employees” (too late!).
The roommates leave the office and decide to take a quick tour of various parts of Sydney. Arriving at The Rocks to explore the market, Dunbar is attempting to park the car and gets directions from everyone else in the car. As Parissa tries to help, Dunbar informs her that he wants “a male” to help him park (if he were a real man, he wouldn’t need help from anyone), which obviously begins an argument with Parissa. While they are out and about, Tricia agrees to drive everyone home in order for Dunbar to be able to drink. She follows this up with a declaration that she is a terrible driver, and that she should not even have a license. This prompts Isaac, Cohutta, and KellyAnne to take a cab to their next destination and eventually to get home. This turns out to be a wise decision, as Tricia is completely freaked out by driving on the other side of the road.
That night, Dunbar is walking around bitching about Tricia’s driving (although he appears to be talking to himself at times). The girls are sitting around bitching about the guys being 2-faced (and we are informed that it is 5:30AM), and Tricia tells Parissa everything that Dunbar has said about her – “she thinks we’re soulmates”, “she’s a bad Christina Aguilera” which makes Parissa mad.
The next day, Isaac tries to scare Parissa by waking her up with a fake snake, but when she jerks awake he is actually the one who gets scared. Isaac then begins discussing their options for the day with respect to work, and it seems that everyone decides to do nothing all day and then just work extra-hard the next day (Yes! That always works). Parissa confronts Dunbar about things that he has said behind her back, and he denies everything, even going so far as to tell her (truthfully) that Tricia is the one who was making comments about her singing on the previous day. Parissa then has the same discussion with Cohutta and Isaac, letting them know that she doesn’t appreciate them talking behind her back. The episode ends with Tricia bitching about the fact that Dunbar ratted her out.
