New Movie Releases – Week of 08/17/07 Friday, August 17, 2007

Posted by Tuffy in movies, new movie releases, tuffy.

Starring: Michael Cera, Jonah Hill, Christopher Mintz-Plasse

Pitch: Okay, what if… and look, I’m just spitballing here… what if we took the hottest team of adult comedy creators in America (Knocked Up, The 40 Year Old Virgin, etc.), paired them with sensational young actors, and created the best high school romp since Fast Times at Ridgemont High?

I mean, or we could work on that Caddyshack 3 script again.

Synopsis: Misfits Cera and Hill try to buy booze to get into a cool party. Of course, it’s about none of that, but you have to hang your hat somewhere.

Target Market: People that like the raunchy funny, especially the teenagers that can’t get into this R-rater about lying about your age to get into a coo… HEY.

Why You Should See This Movie: “Rated R for pervasive crude and sexual content, strong language, drinking, some drug use and a fantasy/comic violent image – all involving teens.” My work is done here.

Death at a Funeral

Starring: Half the cast of Spooks, one of the Firefly guys, That Midget Guy That’s Really Good in Everything, and a bunch of other really good actors you’ll try to place in your memory through the whole thing.

Pitch: We’re British. We invented the hijinx-laden farce. We’ll make as many as we damned well want to.

Synopsis: There’s this funeral and nothing quite goes right and there’s intrigue and upstairs and downstairs and full frontal nudity. Again, the play’s not the thing here.

Target Market: Brits, Anglophiles, and everyone that’s always wanted to see someone from Firefly naked.

Why You Should See This Movie: British farce is the perfect glass of iced tea on a hot summer day. Plus? The nudity.

Also showing:

Yet another twice-directed failed attempt to make Nicole Kidman look warm by making the entire world around her into stiff, unfeeling bastards and a well cast, well worn, and undone attempt to ride the Gladiator corpse for one more bone-crunching time.

I’ve been looking forward to Superbad since the 1st I heard of it. The only thing it’s missing is Gob. If you don’t like the movie, well, then we can’t be friends anymore.

The original Invasion of the Body Snatchers is one of my favorite movies, and I thought the Donald Southerland one wasn’t all that bad. I had high hopes for the new one given the cast, but it looks like utter shit.

I am so confused by The Last Legion, because I swore I saw King Arthur when it came out in 2004. It just seems like a bold moneygrab to me to rerelease the same movie under a new name.
