Here we are, season finale time. Lauren recaps the season up to this point in about 30 seconds. Audrina’s looking at lofts with JustinBobby. She talks out the pros and cons of moving, and saying she’s already kind of living by herself in the guest house. Well yeah. Its a separate house. JB asks if she’s told Lauren yet, she looks whistfully out the window and we get the theme song

Our exterior shot suggests Jack is entering the OEOB, but our interior says “old West Wing set”. He’s on the phone with Liz, who’s eating her Sabor de Soledad at the kitchenette. She recalls the simpler time when Jack was still at GE, rather than this strange and terrifying world of one week hence. Jack will be working in Homeland Security, working on Extreme Weather Preparedness (like…tornadoes that go BASE jumping?) and the War on the Poor. “You mean the War on Poverty?” suggests Liz. Jack: “Yeah, OK. Let’s go with that.” Liz confirms with him that he’s never coming back. Jack: “I’m sorry, Lemon, but there’s nothing left for me at GE. Sure, Geiss could come out of the coma and say, ‘Jackie boy [FORESHADOWING], you’re the next CEO,’ but that’s not likely. The cryogenicists are already sharpening their head-saws.” He mocks her for eating the off-brand Mexican Cheetos, but she counters that she found a prize in them last week. She hopes. Jack cuts her off; it’s time for his Freedom Search. The security guard pulls on his rubber gloves and puts a penlight between his teeth. Yikes, I wonder what happens to a guy like Rahim.
Tracy asks Liz for input on character design for his porn video game. The worlds are so clear in his head, but the translation hasn’t been smooth. He does have a working title, Gorgasm: The Legend of Dongslayer. Frank apologizes: He’ll call the Korean animators. Tracy: “Yeah! You fixulate this! Liz Lemon, do you know what it’s like to be the only one who cares about your job? When everyone around is goofing off like a bunch of goof-offs?” Liz tearfully acknowledges that she does. Seeing this outbreak of emotions, Tracy wonders if Liz is having her “woman times”. Not getting slapped is the first confirmation, but Liz tells him, “I just had my woman times last…oh boy.” Dun dun CREDITS!

He’s interested in continuing to grow the Hyde brand and mentions a casino in Vegas and Heidi says that sounds brilliant. Cue the Natasha and join me after the jump.

Ladies and gentlemen, I am JB* and I will be your guide for the next several weeks as we walk down the path towards what producers surely hope may lead to the CMT Reality Series, “My Big Redneck Wedding”. Joining me on the Big Brown Couch is Mrs.JB*, who will be adding scathing catty commentary along the way.
The premise of the show is your basic romantic comedy fare -
1. Allegedly hunky farmer (who looks like Christopher Titus with bigger ears) lives in small town (Portage Des Sioux, Missouri)
2. Titus wants to marry, but darn, there’s just no good catches here in this small town
3. Enter the fish out of water in the form of ten city girls on the farm
4. Oh, the hilarity ensues. Look at the princess get dirty! Hear her whine! See them kiss!
5. Profit!

Ok, so it wasn’t the treacly mess that I feared it would be. No one believed the children are the future, Jesus and gang pretty much hung out in the background, and there were a few honestly interesting song choices - I fully support anything that brings up the Hawaiian mountain of song that is Iz. Tonight is Idol Gives Back so there won’t be any eliminations tonight, but there might be some on Thursday. As always, our thoughts from last night (minus Matt_T, who was spared “inspiration night”) after the jump….
*ED NOTE - Sorry for the lack of YMR, it’s been a busy couple of days - I’ll give you two songs tomorrow, promise…

The Hills - When Spencer Finds Out… and Just Be Careful… Monday, April 7, 2008

Two more episodes this week.
When Spencer finds out…
Lauren and ShePratt (and she’s looking rough) are leaving class and LC invites her to come out to dinner with her. ShePratt is kind of sketched out because ’she’s Spencers sister’ but she’s not sure if she should. (Of course, she’s going to go we need the drama)
Spencer visits Heidi’s place and notices the painting job and she tells him to make sure to get all of his crap. He asks Heidi if they are dating, bc he’s met girls and he’s not sure if he’s single. She tells him to do whatever, but if he wants to see other people they should break up. He says that he thought they were. She says she should punch him in the face, and the rest of America agrees.

Well we have two episodes tonight:
“Back to L.A.”

Hello Friends, I’ll be taking you through another season of my favorite, totally not scripted at all reality show.
Finally, Lauren has made it to Paris, she and Whitney arrive in the airport. Their driver for Teen Vogue picks them up and they butcher the name of one of the stores they are supposed to go to. They decide to go pick up their gowns rather than pick up shoes for the debutantes. I think this may end up being a bad decision. Cue the Natasha Beddingfield and join me and the gang after the jump.

Well gang, I found this week to be terribly dull and lacking in any really memorable performances. I was pretty happy to have started it an hour late so that I could fast-forward through all the non-performance parts - that’s really the way to go with this show. Welcome back to “Tied to the 90s“, a not-very complete guide to a decade that was. I’m your host, Yostal, and once more, I’ll be taking you through the pop culture landscape of the 1990s. If you have any suggestions for future columns, please email me at GoinYostal@gmail.com or leave me a comment.
This week’s post continues what is perhaps the most self-indulgent effort I have ever made with Tied to the 90s, which I know is saying something. I warn you again, because, well, it’s what I do. I also want to warn you that after today’s column, I’ll be taking a month off. With school starting back up and college football season, my efforts will be needed elsewhere for a little while. Don’t worry, it’s just a hiatus, and I may still post some random other things as the month goes on. So, with all of that out of the way.
At the end of this month, I will turn 29 years old, meaning that I will have been on this earth for 30 distinct calendar years (OK, technically that happened at the beginning of the year, but just roll with me here.) I was struck by that notion and wanted to look at my favorite songs from each of those 30 years. Now, please note I said “favorite”. Not best, not most significant, not most influential, just my favorites. Why they’re favorites can be as simple as I just really like them to having good memories associated with them to something larger. It doesn’t matter. These are just my favorite songs from each of the last 30 years. Now, as always, I can never make this simple, but I did make the rule that once I had used an artist, I could not use them again. I based “year” off the year that the album from which it came was released, and beyond that, I went to town. There’s going to be some crossover from previous columns as you might expect, but I’m going to write all new material about each song, at least as best I can. I fully expect that you will disagree with many of my choices, but it just gives you something to discuss in the comments. So, with no further ado, part II of 30 Years, 30 Songs.

America’s favorite summertime reality show, Big Brother, returned to the airwaves for its eighth installment on Thursday. BB feeds the voyeur inside of all Americans. This year 14 people moved into the Big Brother house with cameras recording their every move. We get to see them do exciting stuff like scratch their asses when they are bored out of their gourdes, which is probably all the time. Along the way the contestants play stupid little games for power in the house. The ultimate goal is to be the last one standing and win $500,000. Really, it’s like Real World under house arrest and a concrete goal at the end of show. (Editor’s note: The Fan’s Attic wrote this post but it was developed with the help of Lady Andrea, Baba Oje and Chilltown. I have tried to attribute jokes to the person I believe made them. If I didn’t credit you, I’m sorry.) More after the jump…. (more…)

As the summer movie season rolls along, we here at DeadOn are committed to giving our readers critical, well-thought analysis because we don’t want you to waste your hard-earned money on bad movies, long lines and spending time with inordinate amounts of teenagers. That and we can’t get enough of seeing our own words in the blogosphere. We are bound and determined to be the eyes and ears for our readers…. Well, at least the eyes and ears for the 85 other writers on this website, who account for most of our readers.
The big movie this week was Pirates of the Caribbean 3: At World’s End starring Johnny Depp, Keira Knightley and Orlando Bloom. And without further ado…

This week’s edition comes to us from our friends to the North, Canada. You see, tomorrow is May 24, Victoria Day in Canada, which was already observed this past Monday. So what the Hell is Victoria Day you might ask, or more importantly, why does Victoria Day deserve its own Tied to the 90s? Well, according to Wikipedia:
This holiday is regarded as the beginning of the unofficial “summer season” in Canada, and is thus the weekend when many businesses, parks, etc., that operate during warm weather months, will open. This makes it a very popular holiday. This long weekend also often signifies the beginning of spring to gardeners in much of the country as it falls around the time when they can be fairly certain frost will not return until the next autumn or winter. For much the same reason, because colder parts of the country winterize their recreational cabins and turn off water pumps, this weekend can also mark the beginning of the cottage season with cottagers making their first visits to check and clean their properties.
In some parts of Canada, the holiday is colloquially known as May Two-Four. This phrase has two meanings: the holiday always falls on the Monday of or before the birthday of Queen Victoria on the 24th of May, and a two-four is Canadian slang for a case of 24 bottles of beer, the most common packaging of Canadian beer.
So, you’re up at your cabin and you’ve got a package of 24 bottles of Canadian beer, so you’re going to need some tunes. Well, thanks to Tied to the 90s official Canadian correspondent, Dr. David, we got a great start on 8 songs to get drunk to with Canadians at the cottage. What with Memorial Day coming up and all, it’s sort of the same basic bear…
(Oh, and if this isn’t enough, El Jefe has some further (which is to say previous) suggestions at this post. More good stuff there.)

Today, I’ll be looking at the third of a two-part series: 19 1990s songs that probably should have been included during the past two weeks. So, mistakes were made, but we’ll just have to make amends now, won’t we. (Wait, did I just slip into the royal we there. My bad.)
So, sit back, relax, and kvetch about what continued bad selections I have made (please remember, the 1990-1994 installment is here, and the 1994-1999 installment is here) in the comments. Also, two things: 1). This list is literally the last cut list, the list of songs I had it narrowed down to before making the CDs. Think of it as “Also Receiving Votes”. 2). I’m at a really high stress point, real job wise, during this week, so this may not have the usual wit and polish that I attempt to inject my columns with, so I hope you don’t mind. That said, game on!

Ok, so I didn’t really see the episode of Scrubs last night. I had…stuff to do. But I did have a good friend take notes (CDNMoose is the greatest person ever!), and let me just say if what he wrote was accurate*, then last night’s show was a big boring snooze fest. Which is too bad after last week’s episode, even though it seems like I was the only one who enjoyed it. Either way, this is one of the many things that is pissing me off about Scrubs. Would it kill them to have two good episodes back to back? Anyway, in case you missed it in Parts One and Two, Nurse Laverne Roberts was in a car accident on the way home and fell into a coma. She eventually died. The start of this week’s show was her funeral. Warning: go get a Red Bull or a candy bar or something. You’re gonna need it.
* - Yeah, whatever. Thank God for PVRs…I watched this on TV with the Sabres/Islanders game on in Picture-in-Picture while the Wings/Flames game played on the computer over streaming audio. “Accurate”? Yeah, your mileage may vary… (more…)
