Son Volt was on WDVE here in Pittsburgh years ago promoting “Trace” and the DJ made the mistake of categorizing the band with Gram Parsons and the Eagles. Farrar got really pissed at the Eagles comparison and barely spoke during the rest of the interview. They played a great acoustic version of “Drown” and “Tear Stained Eye”, however.
I’ve never caught the Volt live - although I tend to keep picking up their albums, I’m not sure anything past the first two albums has really stuck with me. I do enjoy Jay’s solo live album though. Someday, perhaps, I shall catch a show.
