I hate what TV has come to. I miss the days when TV shows would run their seasons with maybe a week off here or there, but pretty much were intact. Now we get a few episodes in November, then a few in February, then maybe a couple more in July. When does this start happening to movies? The first half hour gets released in March, then the next two hours in mid-August. Anyway, NBC is running a comedy marathon tonight with 5 episodes of The Office running from 8-11pm eastern. Paul Lieberstein (Toby/co-exectutive producer/writer/Clarissa Explains it All alum) will be hosting. There will be a brief comedy intermission for an all new Andy Barker P.I., so you got that going for you.

For this week’s clip I bring you Jack Donaghy’s Words of Wisdom.

Special Note: The theme of The Office Marathon is “Human Resource Nightmares” and will feature Diversity Day, Healthcare, Sexual Harassment, The Injury and Gay Witch Hunt. Thanks to Seat42F: Too Much TV for the info.

Its been a long week, but Thursday is here and as we all know Thursday is almost Friday, so fuck it lets go drink and dick around at work/school/home all day tomorrow until its time to drink again. This week Thursday also means the end of Asian Youtube Idol’s Oriental Eight. Don’t worry though, sports fans, we’ll be back next week with the culmination of this fine series that started out with good intentions and turned into something quite different. The final matchup of this round is between fan favorites Little Pimp and William Hung 2.0 (f.k.a. Costume malfunction 3.0). When I say how high, you jump for the videos.* (more…)

Planet Earth was a BBC Mini-series documenting animals from around the world. Everything from an animal attack an animal to…. an animal attacking another animal. Discovery got the rights to it and hyped it by basically say it was the single most important event in the history of mankind. Something that needs to be documented in a blog.

Join me after the jump for my notes on episode 1. From Pole to Pole.

adulationImagine you’re Justin Timberlake. Imagine you’re extremely rich and have a hit record beloved by everyone from jaded hipsters to moms to frat boys to rock critics to teenyboppers to bloggers. You’re so good-looking, you proclaim you’ve single-handedly brought sexy back. And you’re allegedly doin’ it with Scarlett Johansson AND Jessica Biel ON A REGULAR BASIS.

So where do you go from being on top of the world? You pack your sexy up and take it on the road, bestowing sexy on one and all, like a super-hot Johnny Appleseed.

It was absolutely miserable here in Chicago yesterday. Dear Chicago, be a more gracious host and give me 65 degrees and sunny already. DO IT! But, if you get the chance, I recommend taking a cooking class at The Chopping Block. My group did it last night and it was a lot of fun. Plus, now I can make my own Tiramisu. Rexcellent! Let’s get to today’s Chicago musical tribute. You knew this one was coming.

Tell the barber, you’re sick of looking like an asshole

We start out tonight’s blissfully only 30 minutes long Results Show with Ryan wearing a wig that is meant to look like Sanjaya’s pony-tail mohawk from last night. He claims he’s been “Sanjayaed.” That is so funny! These guys should write for SNL. Blah blah blah, recap of last night’s performances. You all know what went down. Sanjaya is horrible, but will never go home, so Haley and Chris S were the worst.

The Let’s Sell a Ford Commercial is a cowboy motif with everybody singing “I Fought the Law.” Chris Richardson is the Black Hat-Wearing Bad Cowboy and Jordin is the Sheriff. Unfortunately, they do not dress Lakisha up as Miss Kitty and make Sanjaya and Haley her girls. It’s kind of cute and Chris R is definitely cute, but let’s move on, shall we? (more…)

As most denizens of the Hoosier State are well aware, Southern Indiana is known for its vast deposits of sadness limestone. As I drove down I saw the limestone carved from the hills. And while the surroundings are rather beautiful, my hotel view ain’t. Neither is the hotel — just another Holiday Inn Express. You’d think they could just carve the entire hotel out of one piece of limestone. Not just walls and floors: phones, remote controls, room keys, everything. Well, except for toilet paper.

Great Movies You Might Have Missed: Topper Thursday, March 29, 2007

For my first “Great Movies You May Have Missed” review, I went overseas. But since I didn’t want to throw another subtitled film at our readers, I decided to go in another direction for my second review. Namely, back seven decades to 1937.

Topper

We all know Cary Grant for his refined personae with romanticized flaws (like grand larceny). It was a role he cultivated and perfected over several decades. But before his memorable work with Hitchcock (Notorious, North by Northwest, To Catch a Thief) and before his best known slapstick comedies (Bringing Up Baby, His Girl Friday), there was Topper, one of his slapstick comedies which is sadly overlooked today.

While it does not survive the test of time quite as well as Bringing Up Baby, Topper is nonetheless an entertaining movie that deserves a viewing, especially if one is a Cary Grant fan. And who isn’t?

Oh, Judy.
