Last week a vacation sounded like a masterful plan, not least because I’d get to skip a week of this ordeal, but I underestimated the pain of two back-to back episodes. Hating Paul Haggis used to be a hobby; now it’s carving days out of my life.
I’m not gonna lie; this show is wearing me down. I mean, how many ways can I find to write “The plots are recycled from the most mediocre of Sopranos seasons; when you can hear the dialogue over the ambient sound effects it’s flatly unbelievable and flatly delivered, and PAUL HAGGIS IS MAKING ME HATE SMALLS”? Another emerging problem: In order to make any sense of what I’m writing you’ll have to have watched the show, and if you’re the kind of person who’s still lapping up this drivel for pleasure, you probably can’t read, and this will not be read to you.

Today, I wish to introduce you to what will likely become an ongoing series of rants or stories that are funny to me. I’ve been meaning to start this for a while now, but my encounter with The Emo Kids today has finally spurred this series into action. Your noble hero, Jerkwheat, was simply on a mission to buy some new music this afternoon. The events that transpired are true example of teenage douchebaggery towards those of us closer to 30 than 20. Well, maybe that’s not what it was, but it’s a good example of teenage indie snob douchebaggery at the very least. Follow the jump won’t you?

“The Simpsons Movie” *finally* sees the light of day on July 27th.
Huzzah!
In the 20 19 weeks leading up to its release, DeadOn is gonna celebrate every Tuesday at this time by counting down the 20 bestest Simpsons episodes ever.
How did we decide on a Top 20? Why, through pure science, of course!*
* - no actual science was used to determine this list
Okay, maybe not “pure” science. But on St. Patrick’s Day, CDNMoose and SA stayed up all night at the DeadOn offices drinking Amaretto & orange juice and debated the merits of all 388 aired episodes to assemble the definitive “Cromulent 20″.
Okay, that’s not entirely correct, either– we actually stopped discussing somewhere around Season 12 because, really, what’s the point?
And yes, we know that coming up with a list of the Top 20 Simpsons episodes is about as fruitful an exercise as other impossible ventures, like choosing the best Beatles album (”Revolver”, *duh*), or which Baldwin brother is dreamiest (Stephen, of course).
Okay, bad examples– those are ridiculously easy actually, but you know what I mean. Hmmmm….Name the Top 20 Cures for Cancer. Stumped? Yeah, it’s just like that. But *way* harder.
Naturally, there will be questionable calls and glaring omissions in the Cromulent 20, so we’ll say up front that if we don’t include an episode you think that should be here, you’re absolutely right: we totally left that episode off to be controversial. Seriously.
Anyway, come with us as we kick things off today with the worst of the best: the 20th Most Cromulent Simpsons Episode of All-Time…

It is, to say the least, an outstanding week for new music. There are weeks when it’s a stretch to find three quality releases to write about, and I probably could go five or six deep this week. Hooray for that! This week brings us new releases from Johnny Marr’s newest band, my favorite group of drug dispensers, and one of our finest purveyors of danceable indie. Today is going to be a crappy day for YMR. I’m starting it off on the bad foot with a 9am dentist appointment. WOOOOT! I hate the dentist more than anything you can imagine, and I already know I’m due for some serious work. Ick. So what I’m gonna do for you is give you a taste of one of my all time favorite songs and hope that a great song will get the day going in the right direction. And today’s band just happens to have a new album coming out today. Which I will remind you of again later today in New Music Tuesday. In the meantime, enjoy!
