Blow Me: A Weekly Look at Cartridges Collecting Dust Friday, March 2, 2007

Every week (If I feel like it), your friendly bitter neighborhood mockery of racial heritage will shine a dim spotlight on a game that’s been hiding at the bottom of closets everywhere like a battered spouse. This week, we explore Naju, a place that time forgot (but nerds remembered)
I knew as soon as I committed to writing for this little nebula of smarm that I was going to be contributing a weekly column about forgotten games from the past; I never had any doubt that I had enough criminally underplayed games to fill three years worth of articles. The reason why I didn’t get this hammered out right away was because of the incredibly tasking choice I needed to make, namely, what game should be my first date, the shining example of a game that never got the attention it deserved. Would it be the thumb-twitching manic frenzy-fest that is Radiant Silvergun? What about the beautiful, engrossing adventure epic The Longest Journey? Could I possibly give this honor to a game with little US exposure, like Ranger-X? HELL 2 DA NAW!
This was a position that could only be occupied by my absolute favorite NES game ever, a game with some exposure, yes, but a game that was so ludicrously underplayed that to this day it makes me weep. I’m talking of none other than the Compile/IREM epic, The Guardian Legend. Never heard it? Well I hope your brain is ready to get its ass kicked, because The Guardian Legend is that damn good. Even at this very moment, as your tender eyes glance over the innocuous blurbs of text, tiny beams of awesome are invading your mind and kicking the shit out of your synapses. I’m talking a beatdown the likes of which we haven’t seen since Ricky Manning Jr. accidently walked into a LAN Party. Why is The Guardian Legend (hereafter referred to as TGL) so damn cool? Read on after the bump, if your puny, unprepared consciousness can HANDLE it, bub. (more…)
American Idol Results: ANDREA ANGRY!!!! Friday, March 2, 2007

I’m here and I will do my recap, but I am not happy about it. I hate the American Public with a burning passion of a hundred million suns. I’m not unhappy solely because I think it is unfair that two people who were pretty good singers are going home (Nick and Leslie the Coolest Girl Ever), though that totally sucks. What I’m so ANGRY about is that two people who SUCK MY ASS at singing and should never have made the Top 24 in the first place are STILL HERE!!! I have come to accept the fact, in my years of watching this show, that everybody except the top 2 have to go home sometime and Nick and Leslie aren’t the best two singers in the competition, so they’ve would’ve left eventually. But it is DISGUSTING that Sanjaya and Antonella are still here and that I have to listen to them next week. I hope they both fall down a well.* (more…)

Great Albums You Might Have Missed - Lost and Found Friday, March 2, 2007

It’s Friday, and it’s time to comb the record collection for another hidden gem. This week I hope to introduce you to another great artist and another fantastic album.
You may not have heard of Ohio native Griffin House, but thanks to a new commercial (for toothpaste of all things!) it’s likely that you’ve heard Griffin’s music. Rembrandt toothpaste has been using Griffin’s song “Waterfall” in its newest ad campaign, and that makes this as good a time as any to fill you in on another great album - Griffin House’s Lost and Found. Follow the jump and take a listen won’t you?

Video Vixen - “You Might Think” Friday, March 2, 2007

“You Might Think” by The Cars
circa 1984
from the album Heartbeat City
Let’s be honest- Ric Ocasek has always outkicked his coverage. How he landed Paulina Porizkova, I do not know. Perhaps his seduction techniques follow those on display in this video (which won Video of the Year from MTV)- where Ric illustrates how to perfect the art of stalking by appearing variously as his ladylove’s alarm clock, a fly buzzing her head, her lipstick and drill in her mouth (not a euphemism). Men: do not try this at home- it will not end with you landing Paulina, I can pretty much guarantee.

The charmer in question
On to the video, after the jump…
This is what he does: Rhett Miller, Johnny Brenda’s, February 28, 2007 Friday, March 2, 2007

Let’s play Two Truths and a Lie:
- The only reason I took Rhett Miller’s solo debut “The Instigator” out of the library was because of the cover.
- I drove from Philadelphia to Pittsburgh and back one night to go to a Rhett Miller concert.
- I made my roommate Virginia come with me to see Rhett Miller, even though she’d never heard to any of his music.
Objectivity and the royal “we” go out the window after the jump.

Question: who orders clip shows? Does it come from the network or do the producers/writers of the show decide there should be one? Either way, Scrubs decided to do one this week, making my job easier. And honestly, it wasn’t the greatest clip show ever. Granted no clip show is ever OMG I LOVED IT !!!1!1!!11!!1!, but there have been some good ones (the first two Simpsons‘ clip shows for example). How did we get into the clips? Follow me… (more…)
New Movie Releases - Weekend of 3/02/07 Friday, March 2, 2007

Photograph by Jim Tardio
Black Snake Moan
Starring: Christina Ricci, Samuel L. Jackson, Justin Timberlake
Pitch: Lash Bettie Page to Willie Dixon to save her soul.
Synopsis: Ricci, a peroxide slut, is dumped on the doorstep of a rural Southern bluesman recently reacquainted with Jesus, played by Jackson. For reasons only understood by the bluesman, he accepts the divine mission to save the nympho from herself. Since he fully expects her to decline the gift of Jesus’ love and His salvation, Jackson chains Ricci to the house. Hot sociological interaction ensues.
Small point of order: Justin Timberlake is one of her conquests in this film. It’s entirely possible this is just a simple misunderstanding caused by the wholly natural urge to fuck Justin Timberlake until it’s possible to use the female sexual organ to glaze ceramic pots.
Target Market: If you get one of Paramount’s indie division marketing lackeys good and stinking drunk, they’ll probably admit they’re just hoping to not get lynched publically before vomiting in your lap and passing out. (Note: Be sure to charge the evening back to Paramount while the lackey is unconscious. This tip brought to you by Tuffy’s 100 Ways to Live Frugally in Hollywood, coming this fall from Plame.)
Why You Should See This Movie: The man who brought you Sympathy for a Pimp brings you the story of a poor black man in the deep South that chains a scantily-clad blonde white woman to his house to stop her from fucking any stump she can squeeze between her legs. If this doesn’t pique your curiosity, I’m not sure we can be friends.
