So I’ve had a hard time establishing my own niche here, since I don’t really fit into any of the categories that seem to be established. I don’t watch any current television, so I can’t comment on this week’s American Idol or Grey’s Anatomy. I do listen to music (rock music even) but I find myself focusing on things in the past rather than current music, so I don’t really belong there either. The one thing I know the (relatively) most about is literature, but that’s mostly scholarly type stuff and no one really wants to read about that here. I also try to watch movies when I can, so I know that I can include my thoughts about current movies I watch. So I see my job as part DeadOn utility man/part balancer (using my snobbery to go along with the normal pop-culture talk of everyone). In this instance I will be talking a little bit about the 2004 film The Motorcycle Diaries. (more…)

Leave it to the party responsible for Crash to devise new ways to piss me off. I was all set to tear this show limb from limb. The only consolation for me, in the wake of Studio 60’s demise, was the prospect of stepping up and taking a few swings at my arch-nemesis.
But I just can’t. If The Black Donnellys were a particularly crunchy-looking leaf on the sidewalk, I would brush it aside without even pausing for a satisfying stomp. (more…)

As a recovering indie rock snob, Step 8 of the “program” requires me to make a list of all persons I have harmed and become willing to make amends to them all. So allow me to admit I once did not go out on a second date with a girl solely because she had never heard of the Velvet Underground. (more…)

Good morning DeadOn-ites! YMR is here to start your day in the right direction. After bringing everyone down yesterday with a little Monday “Miss Misery”, YMR is gonna turn up the rock knob for ya a little today. And with that, here it is: YMR’s tribute to Canadians and cubicle dwellers.
Avoid trends and cliches. Don’t try to be up to date
